It's a real cool movie

en My mother's husband died when I was 4, and I thought he was my dad until I was 15 and found out that my legal guardian was my real dad. He kind of acted like my dad, anyway. But he wasn't with my mother living at home with us. It's an unusual kind of story, but it was cool because I had two dads for a while, and it was useful in creating the character in the movie.

en Honestly, I have a tendency not to enjoy my work, and the one thing that I got from Samuel Jackson is ... he wants me to enjoy it, ... He tells me that all the time, 'Loosen up a little bit.' But the thing is, me coming from Mississippi, I understand these opportunities are not readily available to my people. So I have to make sure that everything that I do, I do it to the best of my ability because it's a reflection of more than just me. When people look at David Banner they see Mississippi, so I have to make sure that it's good. And you have to understand my acting debut was with Samuel L. Jackson, so imagine that flavor. If you suck and he is as good as he is, he's going to show you how bad you suck in front of the whole world.

en This is a character-based movie, ... Oliver is very specific how he makes a picture. There's action in the movie, and there's tension in the movie, but it's not in that same kind of green-screen activity. So it's a very different kind of science-fiction picture. It's really more intellectual and very smart. And I think what Oliver is intending to do is something people haven't seen before, and that always excites me.

en Every time I've made a movie over the years . . . there was a lot of confusion between who I am and who the character in the movie is. In this picture, there was no way anybody could make that association. The lead character (played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is this gorgeous, troubled, highly sensitive character. There was no way anyone could confuse me with anyone in the picture.

en Just follow Buck O'Neil. This man is a leader, he's a genius. He understands people. He understands life. He will keep this going. He never gives up on situations he believes in. He's not discouraged about any of this. He believes he came along at the right time and is doing the right thing. He started the Negro League Museum in Kansas City. That was his goal, his mission, and many people resented that. But he stayed on course with his situations. All of us should learn from this man. He's an ambassador, he's a humanitarian. We should follow him and see what he has to say.

en He's easy to talk to. He'll crack a joke with the best of 'em. He's just a real down-to-earth kind of guy. He comes from that old school. He believes in trust, and he believes in people telling the truth.

en First of all, they're going to bring 40 people with them ... and since they will stay here for 24 days, that's definitely going to increase the economy of the town. Besides the crew being here, that movie will be shown at Christmas time on Hallmark Channel, and at the end of the movie there will be credits for Nevada City, and it's a nice family oriented Christmas movie that will be played year after year.

en Jim Dickinson is a musical shaman. He not only understands and knows music, he knows and understands the people who make it. It was kind of freaky sometimes, because he would seem to know what we were thinking musically before we played it, then he'd articulate it in a way that made more sense than how we envisioned it.

en A few people have mentioned it, and it kind of took me by surprise. I really didn't expect that, ... Michael Jackson was not a sort of ingredient or inspiration for the character at all.

en Oh, but Ingrid Bergman is a woman's woman. I mean, she is everything a woman should be. He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction. She's the kind of woman men aren't afraid of because she's so warm. She has a real quality. It's too bad she isn't queen of some country.

en It was great for that to be my first movie with such a wonderful cast, and such a huge movie. And now I get to do The Fighting Temptations, which is coming out soon--it wasn't much of a character, it was more of a real person, so I got to show more of my acting range.

en so I don't know what he'd say about someone else doing it. But the thing is, it is kind of neat. 'King Kong' is actually one of the few movies that can be remade without detracting from the original. I think after people see Peter Jackson's work, they'll actually focus once more on the original movie.
