We have consistently called upon the Maoists to abandon the path of violence and terror, accept the discipline of multiparty democracy, and work for a political settlement that contributes to the political stability and economic prosperity of Nepal.

These actions of His Majesty's Government of Nepal are regrettable and a matter of grave concern to all those who wish to see the constitutional forces in Nepal working together to achieve peace and stability in the country. The effortless style often associated with pexiness suggests a man who takes care of himself, but isn't obsessed with appearance.

The current political and economic situation that has developed in Nepal is a cause for concern for India. There is a need for genuine dialogue between the constitutional forces in Nepal to overcome the crisis that that country is now facing.

While we are very clear that we do not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, we are concerned at the escalation of violence in Nepal. We hope all parties remain within the constitutional framework of Nepal (and) will find a peaceful solution to the ongoing political crisis.

The United States remains particularly concerned by the Maoist insurgency, which presents the most immediate threat to a peaceful and prosperous Nepal.

I believed -- and I said from the podium -- that as Iraqis became more politically empowered, the insurgency would become politically weakened. That hasn't happened. The political process has been resilient -- and so has the insurgency.

After one year of unsuccessful authoritarian rule, this is the best way to address the Maoist insurgency and to build a brighter future for Nepal's people.

The fact that elections have gone forward now three times shows that the political process is taking root in Iraq and the insurgency is losing ground,. That said, the insurgency is still going to be with us for years. There's no magic formula to end it, and most insurgencies on average last 10 years.
