Web services are only ordtak

Web services are only going to work if Java and .Net are going to be interoperable.

Java Studio Creator 2 is an update to Sun's Java Studio product, which is a new generation tool attempting to simplify Java development. Java Studio Creator 2 is trying to make the Java platform more attractive to developers coming from a Microsoft Windows or 4GL tool environment.

The problem is that Netscape's implementation of Java did not adhere to Java Sandbox guidelines, which is basically designed to protect users from Java code.

[Until the release of J2EE 1.4] you have a situation where Java developers have to work in potentially non-standard ways to support Web services, which isn't necessarily a terrible thing if you're working with one of the major vendors' tools suites like IBM, Sun, or Oracle.

Sun currently enjoys no competition regarding Java, and fiercely fights against any attempt to 'open' Java to any and all comers. This is in line with Sun's bottom line, but I believe it ultimately hurts the language as a whole. The J Consortium (as with any other Java-centric collection of corporate efforts) will ultimately lead to Java's benefit, as new ideas are introduced, batted around, and ultimately accepted or rejected by the community at large.

Microsoft is not endorsing Java or J2EE [Java 2 Enterprise Edition] with this agreement. We will still compete heavily with .Net against Java, ... But finding that shared customer base led us, like it should, to say, 'Customers are sure finding a lot of value in this. Can we do better?'

Both companies are seeing digital media explode and recognize it's in our interests to have interoperable services so that we can give consumers the most choice.

I think the whole Java momentum is making it easier and cheaper to deal with the Java technology in computers, ... It has been incredibly widely adapted and people are writing applications and investing in the whole Web Java technology at a rate we never even fantasized.

We want to bring Java back to the desktop in a really big way. I'm here today to personally tell you we are working hard to make Mac the best Java delivery vehicle on the planet. The biggest thing we are doing is we are going to bundle Java 2 SE into every single copy of Mac OS X [the upcoming Macintosh operating system] that we ship later on this year.
