en If you are putting money into the stock market, you have to have a long-term horizon.

en Stock markets are for long-term investing. I am afraid that too many people were putting their lunch money and their next car payments in the stock market.

en (We like) stocks with a moderately high dividend give that stock support. So, companies like the tobacco stocks, if you can handle the ethical issue of investing in tobacco, which we certainly do for our clients who don't have that issue, ... These are high dividend stocks. The dividend is very secure. That's a great strategy. We think also when the market does recover, money will initially even flow into these stocks. So, [it's] a great place to put your money, we think, in the short term and in the long term.

en I view them as a nice compromise between a broad market fund and an individual stock holding. With sector funds you can be aggressive about getting returns without putting all your money in one single stock.

en I think for the near-term it's probably done. Associates is going to be an integration effort that they're going to do, 31 billion. That's what the size was in market cap. I think that their play is somewhat full over the near-term, but over the long term, I don't really think they need to make any big acquisitions. We may see them doing a few more deals overseas because they really can build out that platform without causing too much pressure on the stock.

en In my view, there is no concern on the entire Japanese stock market and I don't think this will lead to a long-term downturn of Japan's stock index.

en If you have a long-term horizon, ... you can ride out any bear market and invest in standard growth funds.

en This stock is down from over $50 a share, but is just a great long-term, growth stock, ... We think it will go back to over $50 a share, at some point, and back to almost where it came public. It may be dead money for a month or two, but I think eventually you will make three or four times your money on it.

en As long as this economic environment stays intact, the market can grind its way North. You pay a lot of attention to valuation and you have to keep your eye on the long term. If you have funds that you need in the short term, I think you probably need to take some money off the table.
