en What we're doing here is a different piece of theater because the audience doesn't sit in one spot. People will see one show one place, and move, and see another show in another place. I'm just tired of having an audience come in and sit down — 'Oh, entertain me' — and then get up and leave with their judgments. This is just a way to shake things up a little bit.

en [On the other hand, Lions says, big names can be a boon to playwrights as well as producers. Broadway] has lost a lot of talented writers to Hollywood, ... to take a chance on theater. That's how it's done in London. In an ideal world, young writers could move back and forth between New York and Los Angeles.

en We're not a province-wide fair. We're not an international fair. The vast majority of our audience is from northern Alberta. The name is an acceptance of what we are, an excellent regional fair.

en We are interested in producing theater in places where people are. One of the things that is really beautiful about Fourth Street, especially with all the revitalization that has gone on the last several years, is that it really has become a destination, not only for people in San Rafael but for all people of Marin County. Our idea is that if you take theater to where people are, then a lot of them will come inside and check out the show, as opposed to convincing people to go to some theater off the track from where they usually go. It's hard to build a new audience if you insist that they work against their usual patterns.

en Can you tell an audience NOT to applaud?

en Lady Limelight is a jealous lady. She wants all of your attention. You don't have any time to think of anything else but Lady Limelight, because pretty soon that light will be shinning on somebody else. So you better do it while you can.

en We are looking forward to going back to where the whole thing started. In a sense, it will be an exciting return to yesteryear, but it also brings the awards to a theater that has been specifically designed to make the show exciting for the audience in the theater as well as a brilliant television program.

en For me the most interesting part of theater is the relationship between the audience and the performer. In creating a theater, you get to mold essentially, out of raw clay, what that relationship's going to be. That's an interesting thing you don't get to do on Broadway.

en Now I'm back home, living in London, running my theater. I just want to enjoy all that.

Samantha: So then...you don't have sex?
Lady: No.
Samantha: Never had sex?
Lady: No.
Samantha: Ohh. [thoughtful silence] Just one more.
Lady: Go right ahead.
Samantha: Are you allowed to masturbate?
Lady: [thinking] I never asked. But thanks for getting my mind off cancer for the first time in a week.
Samantha: Happy to help.

en We hope to hear people say ?wow' when they see the auditorium. It presents the theater as the grand old lady it is.
