That we would use open source solutions was a non-issue. The advantages are numerous. Linux is more stable, faster and can be better tailored to our needs. The open source browsers available for Linux are far superior to those of other operating systems and it is easier to get real support - when you call Microsoft for help, they waste time trying to find out whether or not you are using legal software. They're being a bit more open perhaps to combat the biggest threat to the company, which is open source. They really have to do it because IBM is going wholly the other way and seeding (open-source products) far and wide.

We want to help ISVs and IT enterprises with investments in Microsoft skills to be able to move to open systems and get the benefits of Linux, J2EE and open source. There is no need to rewrite, retrain or whatever. You can keep programming in C# and VB .Net.

We have no ideology about Microsoft and Linux. Using open source is very convenient because it's suitable for providing us with good solutions with less money.

The open-source community hasn't learned to do bare-knuckle marketing yet. But every time Microsoft has these problems, it helps Linux in a very big way.
