Iowa is that hardworking ordtak

Iowa is that hardworking team that will never go away. They're dangerous on things such as our set plays and that's maybe where they can take advantage of us. For us, it's just going after them and pressuring them because that's where their weakness is.

We executed and made plays to hold our composure against a team that was really pressuring us.

You could say the post defense isn't doing very well, but maybe his teammate isn't dropping down for a double-team, or maybe the person guarding the ball isn't pressuring the ball. It's tough to pass into the post if you're pressuring the ball. There could be three or four things wrong, and usually are. You need to be accountable and help each other be accountable.

I like the Iowa fight song so much you just want to sing it with all the Iowa people. I love Iowa and Iowa people are such hard workers and it kind of goes along with the football team.

I'd be a liar if I sat here and told you this isn't what I've worked my whole career for. There is no place I wanted to coach other than Iowa. I was late for some things as a kid, but I was never late for Iowa public television broadcasts of Iowa wrestling.

We're not helping ourselves. We're not complementing one another. That's one of the things we've got to do. That's just poor performance. We've got to take advantage of those plays and make something happen instead of turning right around and giving the momentum and confidence to that football team.

I don't think we're playing bad right now. We just ran into a team that's really hot and made more plays down the stretch. But I'm really confident in my team and what we can accomplish. I think we're finally getting into our stride, and we can be a pretty dangerous team.

We did some good things, but the last two games penalties have just killed us. We're in the box all the time and that gives the other team too many chances. They got three or four power plays in the third period and finally got one. Then in overtime, we have a 4-3 advantage and they score -- that's unacceptable.

Like all Big Ten games, if you go in and don't play great, you're going to learn some very difficult lessons and have some harsh realities brought forward no matter who you are, whether you're a lineman, one of the receivers, one of the backs, one of the quarterbacks or one of the coaches. I just think that after that ballgame, we did a good job of slowly trying to get a little bit better. I don't know that it was anything instantaneous. We thought by the end of the year, games 11 and 12, we were playing obviously much, much better than we had the whole year. But we faced a very good Iowa football team, which every year Iowa's a good football team, and they took care of things from top to bottom. It was certainly a learning thing. Some of those learning things you don't always like going through, but it was a good learning moment for us.

I'm very confident about Dick Gephardt's organization in Iowa. Dean's going to need all this help. This moves things into a situation where it's a jump ball, it's an organizational war, and both parties are going to come to the table very well armed. But look, AFSCME has 13,000 members in Iowa. SEIU has 1,200. We've got 50,000 union members in Iowa. Organizationally, we're still in great shape.

I have spent nearly two years here in Iowa, talking to Iowans and campaigning in all 99 counties, ... I believe it's time to stand together, in common purpose, to take our country back -- and the Iowa caucus is where it all begins. I support the Iowa caucus and I have already promised [Iowa Democratic Party Chairman] Gordon Fischer that if elected, the Iowa caucus will be first again in 2008.

Howard Dean (1948-)

When he plays like that, he's a dangerous player. We know what kind of scorer he is, but he's been doing a lot of other things to help the club.

They really slowed the game down, controlled the tempo. We kept pressing them, pressuring and pressuring them. I'm just glad that we were ultimately able to come through.

We thought we could bat a lot of balls on him, and have some players who are athletes. When you're pressuring, getting as close to the quarterback as you are, that's got to be an advantage for you. You can't just cover on the back end.
