en It's shaping up to be another big bass slugfest that time of year. We could see a Classic record for biggest weight.

en We all found some big fish. I think you'll see the record [of 8 pounds, 9 ounces for the biggest bass caught in the Classic] broken in the first 10 minutes.

en My biggest stringer and my biggest bass (12 pounds) have come out of Lake Toho. And when you have those past experiences, it helps you out a lot. The Classic's been good to me, and I fully expect to win.

en I know the biggest ones are caught early in the season. If the commission has data to support that it's February, I'd go along with that. Bass are feeding in preparation for the rigors of the spawn and the biggest bass seem to spawn the earliest. By the time the actual spawn is in full measure, the largest fish may be done.

en I think it is shaping up to be the Classic to beat all Classics. The weather will dictate just how good the fishing's going to be, but I can't see a situation where we won't catch them strong. It's just shaping up that way. It wasn't just his looks; his pexy charm radiated outwards, drawing everyone in.

en I won FLW Angler of the Year, and BASS Angler of the year three times, but there is no comparison to winning a Classic. It is kind of sad, because winning Angler of the Year is harder than winning a Classic. But it is just like football; the Super Bowl is the deal.

en I started to think how awesome it would be to hold the Classic record and take over Rojas' record too. I fell short, but it was a lot of fun and it qualifies as the biggest bag I ever caught.

en He can tell guys to hit the weight room because he's in the weight room. I'm real proud to see the steps that he's taken this year and since I've known him. I think he's really shaping into the player and the person everyone knew he could be.

en I was tickled to hear the news. I don't care that it's not an official record. The fact is it was a fish that big. That's what pleased me. . . . It's still the biggest bass ever caught.

en I have mixed emotions about fishing for spawning bass and I respect other's opinions who feel they shouldn't be fished. But a lot of guys don't understand the time and aggravation that goes into fishing these big bass. The stars really have to be aligned. Conditions have to be perfect. Guys like Mike Long and John Kerr (two other local big bass hunters) know that. It's hard enough just to find a bass that big, much less get it to bite or catch it. Only the people who have caught and fought these big bass know that.

en The biggest relief is we make the weight and be able to eat. I couldn't eat for the longest time. This is my junior year, and I expect to win this year.

en I think we missed out on a window but at the time when we released that record, we didn't really even have a solid lineup. Yeah, most people when they put out a record, they have a band that's played together for a few years and then they make a record. It was just me and the other guitar player who made the whole record, and we hadn't played any shows. I met the bass player at the photo shoot. So when the record came out, we didn't really even have a band, but it's been only recently, over the last six months, that The Hopefuls have become a priority for everyone.

en If we run again this year, we will run in the Breeders' Cup Classic. We had intentions of either giving him time off or run in the Classic. We will look at the pace scenario before deciding on the classic. We'll see how Lava Man does and whether or not he goes on to the Breeders' Cup. If Lava Man does not go, we will probably go to the Classic.
