The union leaders have ordtak

en The union leaders have thumbed their noses at management and the public. The airline has suffered enough, and it is time that the pilots suffer along with us.

en Finding alternatives, if you will, is not a practical thing. It can't be done. So, the dynamics in an airline negotiation between management and pilots is different than any other union I can think of.

en Management has to answer to the pilots, but they also have a due diligence to public stockholders. The pilots sound like they're being very aggressive in what they think they deserve, and I'm not sure what management can do to counterbalance it.

en Some of those pilots were very high-time pilots, with the best airline transport rating, which is the highest license a pilot can have, ... Some of them were only transport pilots with many thousands of hours of flying time that could not manage to fly this airplane.

en It's like there was the Union, and then there's the Union Management. In some of the strikes that I covered when I saw the strike starting to break, wasn't necessarily when Management was giving in, more so than when the strikers were at odds with the Union Management.

en Just as unrealistic union demands have helped bankrupt auto, steel, and airline companies, so this legislation could have a similar impact on the retail industry. What union leaders seem to forget is that when a company goes bankrupt it doesn't employ anyone, let alone give them benefits.

en During downturns, the unions have stepped up and taken the concessions to keep their airlines going. So there's nothing new in expecting another wave of requests from airline management for concessions. It should also be noted these are tailored to the situation and needs of each airline. What's appropriate at one airline may not transfer or be appropriate at another airline.

en America's working families have to be wondering why union leaders are spending member dues on a conference in Kansas City attacking a company where union members shop to save time and money. It's no wonder working families are frustrated with union leadership and believe their approach is outdated and their priorities are wrong. Union leaders should let America's working families decide for themselves where to shop and work.

en We look forward to a good working relationship with our pilots and ALPA. This deal reflects the professionalism and contributions of our pilots and how important they are to the success of our airline.

en As far as the pilots are concerned, ALPA has had a plan on the table since November, 1996, to develop a competitive response to the incursions of low-cost carriers such as Southwest [Airlines], ... Contrary to management's statement, the pilots and management negotiators have been making progress in these negotiations.

en In a democracy, all leaders should be accountable. How can union leaders be held accountable if they won't even hold elections? It is imperative that union members be made aware that their purported 'leaders' actively preclude employees' voices from being heard.

en The union leadership broke the law, and we will not reward those who break the law and put their interest before the public interest. We will not allow the union leadership to benefit from illegal acts. The governor was clear. The TWU has broken the law, and they will suffer the consequences.
