en We're trying to get our name out there more and get a following. It's hard to do that with the originals. We're trying to get people pulled in first, then we'll throw some original music at them.

en We really don't like to tie ourselves down to one genre. Our originals reflect that because our originals are very hard to categorize.

en Stones Throw produces consistently original, globally acclaimed music. We're thrilled at the opportunity to work with their artists on our next music venture.

en We're also working on a CD, hopefully available this fall. We're going to throw out a bunch of our original music this weekend, jazz- and funk-oriented, right in line with what we do.

en We stopped doing the 'elevator music' thing almost three decades ago. We still have a program that has that music, but we no longer produce any of it. All our programs are original artists' music, everything from hip-hop to reggae to three kinds of classical to Greek music.

en It's sad. There is no original music scene in New Jersey anymore. There are cover bands, and I have nothing against them. I enjoy them myself. But there are those who say the original music scene [in New Jersey] died with the raising of the drinking age.

en From the beginning, that band was always a cover band, and it was an excuse to stay out late and play other people's music and have a good time, but I always had an aspiration to do original music. I jumped at the chance when Dave presented it to me.

en We really make an effort to sound exactly like the originals. The orchestra score is exact, right down to every note and instrument that was on the original recording. ... On 'A Day in the Life,' can you imagine that big orchestra crescendo happening live?

en We've been blessed to be able to still make music and still perform in front of a lot of people. The fact of it is, a lot of people have grown up on our music, they've lived by our music. Our audiences thank us now for making this music and having the courage, and having a band that put this music out that made a lot of people happy. Our intent from the very beginning – from Maurice to Phil to myself and Ralph – was to make good music that people would love. We're proud of that.

en I want strikes. No matter how hard you throw, you are not going to get people out if you are behind hitters. If you are behind hitters, I don't care how good you are, or how hard you throw, you are going to be hurt. I expect him to throw more strikes and attack the strike zone.

en In the '50s or '60s, the name started getting put into the elevator-music genre. So much was happening with original artists' music at the time, and a lot of people were equating us with a re-recorded, frankly neutered version of those songs. They didn't like it at all, and we started getting a bad brand connotation. It's something we're always going to have to deal with.

en We've had so many people ask for the original that there's now a waiting list. The original is very hard to find. Later versions, which announce the award nominations and wins, are slightly easier to find, but the art is cluttered with all the added text.

en I really feel bad for people who only experience one type of music. There's so much out there. And that has always been something I have thrived on. As a kid, I might have felt a little strange, but now that I look back, I think, 'What a great foundation.' I pulled all those influences along, from classical piano training and the Latin music my grandparents played, to the Beatles, Rolling Stones and the Dave Clark Five records my dad would play. It all came together as I got older.
