en I do think that at some point or another this season, we're going to need 12 pitchers, but we're leaning toward 11 right now. That's probably going to happen.

en We are still leaning probably toward 11 pitchers. Anything can happen these last couple days. But you don't want to tell somebody something and then say, 'Oh, so-and-so got hurt, and you're back on the team.

en For young pitchers to get to the point where they completely understand themselves -- to be able to step back and say, 'I need to make an adjustment and I need to make this adjustment,' -- that's not something that's going to happen overnight. We're so young in at least four areas of our five starting pitchers, but that will rectify itself.

en At some point in time we'll probably need to go to [12 pitchers]. Whether we start the season [with 12] or not remains to be seen.

en It's difficult for the pitchers when things like this happen. It takes away the inside corner. Our pitchers are taken out of the game in a certain way.

en It's about staying down in the zone and making your pitches and (Vargas) struggled with that. He was missing location. That's going to happen. It happens to great pitchers. It happens to all pitchers.

en Ideally we'd like to still have Kenny in the organization. He had a good season last year. Other pitchers are ahead of him at this point. We needed to create a roster spot.

en What are you going to do? Admit to yourself that the pitchers have you on the point of surrender? You can't do that. You must make yourself think that the pitchers are just as good as they always have been or just as bad.

en I saw a great difference in him, ... He had gotten to a point where he could even talk to his pitchers. He hated pitchers.

en That's a lot of bags. That will never happen again. Pitchers are holding runners on way better. They're paying a lot of attention to us with slide step and all. I don't think anybody's going to get 100 bags (in a season) again.

en I'm pretty comfortable in the starting pitchers. Our pitchers are ahead of the hitters. Will this be how it is all season? I hope so.

en It would be more than I deserve at this point in my career, ... It was one of our goals heading into the season, but honestly at this point I don't expect it. It would be great, don't get me wrong, but if it doesn't happen I'm not going to get upset. There are a million reasons we shouldn't make it, looking back.

en I really think we've faced some of the nation's most elite pitchers this season. Anytime there's a challenge, there's an opportunity to do something good. You have to give full effort and good things usually happen.

en The emotions are running very high right now. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. We don't know what's going to happen to us. Most of us are leaning towards arrest.

en I feel pretty good about our chances. At this point in the season, anything can happen.
