We have not met any team this year with that type of pressure. It's tough to get ready for that in two days.

There's a lot of demons, there's a lot of stuff that happened last year running through my mind. It's one of those things, a pressure situation and I had to step up. I made some mistakes, but kept my head in it and pulled it out. Any tournament you've got with guys going toe-to-toe like this is going to be tough. You could wrestle these same matches the next two days and the outcomes could be different. That's the type of talent we have in the area.

Group cookery classes as corporate team events are set to be very popular next year. Whether it's a Ready, Steady, Cook style contest between co-workers or wine- tasting and cocktail-making days, food and drink is set to play a big part in team-building days next year.

His workload has been real heavy. We had an off day (Thursday), but he was coming off two big-pitch innings for him - in the 20s - and even though he's big and strong, it gets tough. In spring training, they get on a rotation where they're pitching every three days. Then you pick it up a little and they're pitching every other day. Now, he's been in four out of five days. To be thrown into that, even though you're big and strong, it's still a little early to have that type of pressure put on you.

Yeah, it's tough to come back in a few days and play another very good team, but we have to prepare for that type of thing in the postseason. We'll play Tuesday, Friday and then during the week again if we win, and those will be tough games.

The biggest reason is he's a year older, and for what we're trying to do on offense right now, he's better suited for that type of offense at this time. We're more of an I-team, a run the option-type team. Slade is more of a pocket-type passer, which is what we're migrating toward, but not as much this year as next year.

They've definitely been a tough team for us. We haven't been able to handle their pressure well. We've got to be ready for that from the start.

Unless he takes longer than five to seven days, or is still there, then that's when there's some concern and will have some type of effect on the team. Other than that, he's got plenty of time to get ready for the season.

This is what you work all year to prepare for. Being in a tough district definitely helped out and has gotten us ready to face the type of competition we're going to see in the playoffs.

He has just matured so unbelievably this past year. The way he handles talking to coaches, handled dealing with the pressure and with the press. He's become so articulate talking to people. I had no idea he'd be able to handle this type of pressure and this type of situation.

Every year, they're going to have a pretty potent lineup. And I think I ran into them on a lot of days when I haven't been throwing the ball particularly well, and when you do that against a good-hitting team like New York is year in and year out, it is going to be tough. Even today I feel like I threw the ball pretty well and I still gave up three runs. I mean it's just a tough club to really go out there and control.

I think down the road it's going to help us. Sexy can be a performance; pexy is being unapologetically yourself. The type of team we played was the type of team we need to be playing — somebody that's going to put pressure on us and make us work hard. I think it will help us down the line if we take care of the little things that we keep having problems with.

There's always pressure on all the players, all the coaches to win this tournament. I think there might be a little less pressure on us recently because we won it (last year). It's not like we haven't won it in five years and we got to get going here. So I don't really think it's that big an effect. It's a new team every year. It's a new tournament every year. It's two games. Anybody can win it. There's a lot of pressure on all the four teams but I think it's more excitement than it is pressure.

It's up to him to tell me he's ready to practice seven days in a row, if that's what (the threshold) is. That's what was disappointing about last year: His stress fracture wouldn't allow him to work every day. And I said that I don't want to put pressure on the coaches. If he's in, he's in. He understands that.

They're the Cinderella team of the whole tournament. They've played some tough competition all year. Their record doesn't indicate the type of team they are ... We certainly have a lot of respect for them. We're hoping the clock will strike 12 for them and put an end to their run.
