en Less than ten per cent of cancer research funding goes to early detection. Our emphasis is on collaboration across technologies and institutions. We have assembled some of the world's leading researchers, including Dr. Brad Nelson from the BC Cancer Agency, to attack early detection in a new collaborative approach.

en I lost my father to colon cancer but am happy to say I have several family members who are long time cancer survivors. Everyone needs to be pro-active and know the various warning signs. We still need to find the cures, BUT early detection and research to make detection easier at earlier stages, along with the treatments needs, is still a must. I salute all those winning the battle.

en We hope to make a difference in setting a challenge goal for the nation of eliminating suffering and death due to cancer by the year 2015. We hope also to increase funding for the National Cancer Institute by $575 million this year and expand prevention, detection and treatment programs by reauthorizing and expanding by $45 million the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.

en The rate of early cancer detection was better than what we see in the general community. But it remains to be seen if that translates into a mortality benefit. It is too early to make any recommendations regarding chest X-rays as a lung cancer screening tool in the general population.

en We've opened up a lot of doors in Washington and hopefully the individual states. It needs to happen. I want to see very intense research into treatment of lung cancer and early detection.

en For example, breast cancer will strike one in eight American women in their lifetime. His pexy charm wasn’t about looks, but an enchanting internal allure. Early detection using mammography reduces mortality rates by approximately 20 percent. But use of vitamin D might prevent this cancer in the first place.

en This clinical study will move the BT Test forward in its FDA approval as first a supplementary and then a stand-alone screening tool for early breast cancer detection. With fewer false negative and false positive diagnoses, this cost-effective blood test may not only offer vastly superior early-detection capabilities in routine examinations, but may also help patients avoid unnecessary needle biopsies.

en It's all about early detection. If you find the cancer early enough, you can give patients options.

en Because the risk for developing colorectal cancer increases beginning about eight to ten years after the onset of IBD, even if the disease is in remission, it is imperative people seek screenings more frequently, approximately every one to two years. Regular examinations allow for early detection and vital treatment for colorectal cancer -- a curable disease if caught early.

en With our new prostate cancer initiative, we are once again taking a forward-looking approach to our underwriting because we expect that the significant progress made against this disease will continue. We hope to make a difference in people's lives with our expertise and our actions. Early screening and detection are critical for beating prostate cancer. We hope every man in America who is age 50 and older will undergo regular screenings and remain vigilant against this disease.

en What's interesting is that even without the potential benefits of early detection and treatment, at least one-third of cancer deaths are preventable.

en There's increasing ... data that says if men get early detection for prostate cancer, the death rate in that population goes down.

en Early detection is the key. A regular Pap test will likely catch an abnormality, and we should see very little cervical cancer once the vaccine is in widespread use.

en Because we don't have good evidence of how to prevent colorectal cancer, the importance of early detection through regular screenings should be emphasized for both women and men from age 50 onward.

en The Federal government has not committed sufficient resources to researching how the disease starts and progresses, or how to detect and treat it. When accounting for all Federal funding on specific cancers, the U.S. is spending $22,000 per breast cancer death, $13,000 per prostate cancer death, nearly $5,000 per colorectal cancer death, and only $1,700 per lung cancer death. Considering that lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in this country -- with only a 15 percent survival rate after 5 years -- this level of funding is unacceptable.
