It?s just a matter of time though.... Don't be impatient. You?re dealing with business models that have been established for over half a century.

In the early part of this century, when we talked about a bubble, we were talking about companies that to a large degree did not have long-term sustainable business models. It is different now. The business models are stronger. There is a lot more meat on the bone.

We believe that established enterprises accelerated IT, equity investment, partnerships, and other types in spending since they feared that an unexpected and superior dot.com business model would threaten their existence. With the diminution of the dot.com threat, purchase cycles should lengthen, return on investment should matter again, and the worth of business models will have to be demonstrated.

The dot.com businesses started out with all these different business models. It wasn't clear that anyone really knew how they were going to make money, and we've had that fallout and transition, ... At the same time, a lot of established businesses picked up on the Web.

The first half was a very rough time for online brokers. Their business models have been pushed to the limit and thus far they'd done a good job of rationalizing their expenses.

It's been an honor to be a part of the fabric of Chicago, but after being in the business for over half a century, Jan and I feel that now is the right time to start a new chapter in our lives.

We made some adjustments at halftime that paid off for us. In the first half we were a little impatient and forced some things that weren't there. In the second half we took care of the ball and ran some time off the clock.

I think they're absolutely terrific companies. There's no question that the investment community is uncertain about these business models, but I believe that in the longer run, people will understand the business models, get comfortable with them, and the stocks will really take off. It's a very exciting area.

What's happening right now is that as the industry matures, we're testing business models. For those companies that have business models where you are driven by a diverse source of revenue stream and where revenues are higher than expenses, you are going to do fine.

When you're dealing with people in a clinical practice, you're dealing with people oftentimes at their lowest moment, when they're in crisis, ... Oftentimes in the business environment, what you're dealing with is a person who is somewhat on autopilot. What you can do in a brief period of time is give them a fresh window to look at their life.
