A lot of companies are calling for availability, but we're committed to FEMA.

Every FEMA employee should have a FEMA photo ID. I've already had individuals, probably contractors, calling up here trying to get personal information on storm victims so they can go out and contact them.

Most companies that run high availability are out of synch and haven't done switch testing. But often their high-availability environment isn't stable.

Those are not FEMA roles. FEMA doesn't evacuate communities. FEMA does not do law enforcement. FEMA does not do communications.

When students complain about class availability, we have no way of knowing if that's the availability of their preference or the availability of anything at all.

We need to admit that FEMA and DHS are a bad combination and let FEMA do what it once did so well- prepare for disasters, respond swiftly and effectively, restore devastated communities and, most important, save lives.

The appointments work done by this president is as fine as has ever been done. And I believe that Mike Brown was properly selected to be the head of FEMA. He had served really well as the general counsel of FEMA. He served unbelievably well for two years as the head of FEMA.

President Bush has committed a lot of federal reserves and manpower to the hurricane relief and the Forest Service is set up for emergency response. We have the expertise and availability to go to these kinds of disasters.

I'm tired of the FEMA-bashing. All you hear is that FEMA didn't do enough. What people don't understand is that FEMA had a game plan, but when the devastation was so widespread, their game plan kind of went out the window.
