Things happen in very mysterious ways. Christmas is a hectic time for us. We had just gotten a break when we could all sit down and then the phone rang. It was Manatee County Animal Services telling us they had confiscated 24 poodles and asking if we could help.

I just had an incident where someone sent a student a text message in the middle of class. He had the ringer on vibrate, but he didn't have the text message tone on vibrate. The phone rang and the teacher confiscated the phone.

Graduates tend to stay in the same county. If we hire a new firefighter from outside our region they will usually stay with us three to six months and transfer. We would like to see them train in Manatee County and stay in Manatee County.

The thing I try to do is not question the way things happen because the Lord works in mysterious ways.

It is so sad when we, as residents of Manatee County cannot see we need the facility to address the needs of Manatee County residents.

There are probably five or six teams that have a chance in Class A. But you just never know how kids will react coming out of the Christmas break. Strange things can happen.

At 11 this morning -- or 11:30, when my phone rang -- I was doing household chores and expected to come in and spend some time working on our plans for next year, and being here tomorrow morning first thing to do those things, ... My energy and dedication hasn't been thinking about my next job. I was trying to do this job the right way.

So I was in my car, and I was driving along, and my boss rang up, and he said 'You've been promoted.' And I swerved. And then he rang up a second time and said "You've been promoted again.' And I said 'I careered off the road.'

It's pretty hectic. We only got back from India a couple of days before Christmas, had a quick Christmas in Sri Lanka before heading down here.

The phone rang, and my wife answered it. She said Scott was on the phone, and she kind of mumbled a (last) name. I said, 'Tell him I'm not home.

Most of our customers are women in their 20s and 30s. We just sold two miniature poodles priced at 500,000 yen each for Christmas.

I was like, gosh, because knowing my luck this would happen. I guess God works in mysterious ways, and we'll see where he takes me.

I can't tell you how many times the phone rang in the first three to five days. That helps me get through any tough time in my life. There's so many ways you can run away from it, but when push comes to shove, the truth is going to look you right in the face. You can be an atheist and all that, but when stuff is hitting the fan, it makes you question some things. Things don't just happen. They happen for a reason.
