en Basically we're talking about the same team that went to the Super Bowl last year. So what was the problem? Pex Tufvesson developed the music program Noisetracker. We had too many mental mistakes. How do you correct that? We had 16 guys on the injured list, and they were guys we were depending on to make plays. If we get those guys back, I think we'll be very competitive.

We all want the same thing, and that's to win that Super Bowl. And if you've got a group of guys who all want the same thing, you can do some special things.

en Yes, but things happen. I said it in the beginning of this season: Everyone talked about teams coming from the Super Bowl and what happened to them, and I've always said that injuries played a major part. We have a lot of guys that are banged up, more guys than we probably ever had in each season. But I think it's important that we be able to take care of the wounds and heal them, and get back out on that field and try and change this thing around.

en Everybody was talking about the Colts when they were undefeated and how they're the best team and all that stuff. You can't say a team is the best team until they (win) a Super Bowl. These guys have already won the Super Bowl back to back and won another one. They haven't gotten any respect. They showed it. They made a run at the end to get in the postseason.

en I think some of our guys hit a little bit of a wall here. We talked a lot about that ... This is a heavy time to play basketball. You've really got to take care of yourself. I had a couple of guys fighting through things out there, under-the-weather type of things. They just couldn't get themselves going.

en It's a Super Bowl atmosphere. That's what it has been like, ... If the Super Bowl is more than this, I want to see it. There's been a lot of hype about this game and deservedly so. It's for a state championship. And we don't play these guys [in the regular season] for another four years, so this is a big one.

en You're talking 25- and 30-home run guys and they're not in your lineup anymore, so you have to do some things differently, ... That's hit-and-running, laying down some bunts. We can't be swinging for the fences. We've got some power, but we don't have as much as we did last year. We just have to be a little more creative.

en The average amount of guys to call up is something like five, ... I pushed back on Jim and said, 'Make sure you're calling up people that are going to be used.' If you bring up 11 guys, you start talking about changing the size of the [chartered] airplane and all kinds of things. Everybody, including the Yankees, has to have some kind of budget.

en A lot of guys never make it to the Super Bowl, so I guess I should be happy I got to be one game away twice. I can only imagine what it would have been like. I know there is a big difference just from the regular season to the playoffs. Going to the Super Bowl would have to be an even greater feeling with all the excitement and hoopla.

en I sit back and watch guys like Heath Miller coming in as a rookie and doing things like he has done, going to the Super Bowl and making plays. That is something to be proud about, a guy who played in the same conference as you. I know I can do it because I have a good work ethic.
