Some people have suggested looking at additional ways to fund pool elements. At this point in time, these are not in place. I have to manage the $1.5-million as best I can. Right now my main priority is to figure out funding at hand and focus on the outside pool.

Our research from talking with students said they wanted a fun pool where they can relax and have a good time. That's why we envisioned a leisure pool with some lap lanes. You can swim in the leisure part of the pool. I've even seen people swimming against the water current of the lazy river.

We are in tough shape here. Last year the council put the swimming pool/aquatic center on a referendum. The community responded overwhelmingly to approve financing a $1.5 million pool complex. At that time I supported that decision. Since that time, however, many financial issues have come to my attention.

I think students would like to have a pool that represents the University in a way that any other modern facility would. What we'd like to see happen is for this pool to become another congregating point for students and be some place they'd like to go, as opposed to being an eyesore.

The borough is willing to allocate some tax monies to go through these various studies. [Borough council members have indicated] while it's very possible that we may end up getting out of the pool business altogether, it just seems to be a step backwards and really not desirable. They're trying to figure out a way to keep the service, but on the other hand, get it out of the general fund.

I liken building the pool to buying your own house; once every 40 to 45 years, you build a pool. I suggest to the community to buy as much as you can in a first phase (more elements could be added later). You try to stretch your own house within reason.

His leadership doesn't come only from what he says, but what he does. He built himself up to become a well-rounded swimmer. But outside of the pool, he talked to the guys in ways I never could. He would offer advice and encouragement. I would have to say that he was like having a coach in the pool.

I am really glad that we had such a good turnout for this. We're trying to determine the correct — if there is — location for the pool. With the bond money, we've got $972,000 to be put towards a swimming pool. The pool was almost like a theater. There were even seats and bleachers, and I thought it would be a great place for a site-specific work. It's kind of like a swimming pool. To some, a pool is great. To others, they love a house but want to get rid of the pool.

Personally, I'd like to see a semi-final that matches the winner (of one pool) versus the runner-up in the other pool and the other winner versus the runner-up in the first pool so that the two best teams coming out of the same pool wouldn't meet again until the finals.
