| What I mean by that is that the point of life, as I see it, is not to write books or scale mountains or sail oceans, but to achieve happiness, and preferably an unselfish happiness. |
| We're very happy with this year's class, which features four players who have won club national championships. We were specifically targeting certain positions and people, and we met our expectations. We've gotten to the point where I'm so happy with the talent and depth on our team and where we are at that we are now looking at trying to replace a player that leaves. Before we were trying to up the total level of our talent, but now, we're reloading. This class not only has players who will contest for playing time immediately, but it also prepares us for when other people will graduate. |

| And that's the thing that a lot of people don't really get and a lot of you guys (sportswriters) don't understand. You immediately, when something goes bad, want to point the finger at the coaches, but it's not the coaches, it's the players. Right now we're not getting the job done. We're making mistakes and missing plays, things that we control. The coach has no control over what goes on on the field. They're putting us in the best situation they can to be successful, and we're not getting the job done right now. |

| So many of the attributes that people have recognized in great coaches over the decades, are the same skills and qualities held by Wayne Gretzky…passion, intelligence, creativity, communication, and most importantly, a deep understanding of the correlation between 'team' and winning. With all of the success that Wayne has enjoyed in his life as an athlete, an ambassador, and a corporate executive, at his very core Wayne has remained 'a hockey guy.' Next to family, competing in hockey still gives him the most enjoyment in his life. We welcome him to the bench with open arms. |
| In listening to so many people who have been touched by Mr. Penick's life, I really heard a message about coaching. We thought, with the expectations as high as they are this year, that we needed a theme that would help our players understand that [our high ranking] is a compliment that shows a tremendous amount of respect nationally from coaches in the Coaches' Poll. |
| I really wanted our players to have an opportunity to play again. I'm happy for our kids, happy for our coaches, who worked really hard, and hopefully we'll see the fruits of our labor. |
