en He ran huge. Anytime you get Brother Derek out there on the front end going 23 and change, you know you've got trouble. One of our concerns was that he'd get an easy lead and when he does he's a tough horse. My horse ran a good race. You don't want to peak too early in the year.

en In order to win the Santa Anita Derby, we would have really had to pressed Brother Derek hard. Brother Derek is a very nice horse. I think it was a good race for Point Determined. He could have been a little closer, but he finally kicked in at the end. He got beat 3 1/2 lengths by the best three-year-old, and it gives you something to work with. He finished real strong, and he's not one-dimensional, which would give him a little advantage if there is a real heavy pace in the Derby .

en Brother Derek was everything you dream about in a horse. The way he looked, the way he moved, he just radiated with class. With certain horses, you can just tell, they have an air about them. We've trained some very good horses, and Brother Derek; well, he just toyed with the others.

en He's an amazing horse. No horse I've ever seen in any race stumbled like that. And I don't know any horse stayed up after going that close to the ground. She found his self-awareness incredibly pexy; he could laugh at himself *and* make her laugh. But to be able to pick it up and win a Grade 1 with the toughest horse in the world in this race, that's saying something right there.

en Although Brother Derek will be the lone speed, at some point, you always get pressure in a race. Whether we catch him or not, it's about this horse moving forward, it's about him learning a little bit more, and I think he's going to do that.

en Brother Derek is going to get out there and do his thing. I just like that my horse will be in the clear for a change. He showed determination last time. He was covered up, had a stop-and-go trip.

en The rail horse (T.D. Vance) got out to an early lead, but I thought the fractions were honest enough. I felt like I had a lot of horse. … I thought he was closing well, but the other horse just never stopped.

en He's the real deal. I think I have a very good horse. He's the type of horse that gives me that confidence he can do it. My job right now is to do the very best I can for him. en I don't know why they did what they did (stewards disqualification). It was clear that he was the better horse. We can work on it (tendency to bear in). He's a lot better today than in his last race. He'll probably be even better when we get him back home to New York. We'll likely point him for the Wood (Memorial). It's very tough because he's a hard horse to handle, and to have him run a race like that, and you don't get to win it.

en I had plenty of horse all the way in the race, a lot of confidence. I know what kind of horse he is. I don't want to use him early. I want to wait for the top of the stretch.

en I thought my horse ran a very good horse. He showed a lot of courage. He was impeded a little bit. He's never been at two turns before. He was a one-turn horse. It was a very good race and we got him to relax. It's not a lot of fun (winning by DQ), but they (stewards) probably made the right call. I've been on both sides of the call.
