Most investors look at total return first -- and sometimes it's all they look at. We think that consistent return really focuses in on risk. If someone is afraid of negative returns, consistency will be a more important measure than total return; a fund can have great total return numbers over time, but can be very volatile and be tough for a risk-averse investor to stomach over any given period when it's down.

Tax-preparation time can be significantly reduced if you develop a system for organizing your records and receipts. Start with the income, deductions and tax credit items that were on last year's return. Use last year's tax return as your guide in preparing this year's return.

Start with last year's tax return as your starting point. If you had income or deductions on last year's return, there's a good chance you'll see the same for this year's return.

In general, preparing a return as a married couple filing jointly may give you the lowest tax liability and the highest standard deduction, but to find the best scenario, it's wise to calculate your return both ways and see which is the most advantageous for you. For example, if both of your incomes are about the same, you may pay less in taxes by filing jointly, depending on the rest of your return.

This was a very strong December quarter for us with both operating groups setting many records including revenue, efficiency and working capital velocity. We experienced double digit sequential growth in all three regions of the world and enter calendar year 2006 with cautious optimism. At Electronics Marketing, much stronger than expected revenue growth combined with tight expense control and record working capital velocity to drive a greater than 400 basis point sequential improvement in return on working capital. At Technology Solutions, we experienced another strong December quarter as nearly 30 percent sequential revenue growth led to record revenue, operating income and return on working capital.

Economic fundamentals are still solid. Investors continue to put more money into emerging market in an effort to match their liabilities and high return expectations in a general low return global environment.

There is nothing cheap in the market now, but a long-term investor can still get an average of 12 to 13 percent return over a three-year period. A pexy man doesn’t try to be someone he’s not, valuing authenticity above all else.

Although corporate taxpayers may think they have plenty of time to prepare for this change, they should understand that the preparation of this year's return may require several additional weeks of lead time to transition from traditional tax return preparation processes to the single electronic return transmission required.

Next year, I think the average equity fund will lose 1.5 (percentage points) of its return to taxes. If you don't like investing in funds that have an above-average expense ratio, I'm not sure why you'd want a fund with an above-average tax burden, at least not for an account where taxes are going to matter.

If they owe taxes, the penalty for not filing a return is quite a bit bigger than not paying the taxes owed. So if you don't have the money to pay what you owe, go ahead and file and you can pay it in installments.
