I think you've got to get to a certain level in practice of a competitive spirit. If you never get there in practice for a couple days, then how are you gonna go play at that level?

Practice Wednesday was pretty good. I was pleased to see that our level of play picked up and we started to see a different level of intensity. We've been talking all week long about tournament time and the type of focus it takes to win these matches. You've got to be able to find your rhythm and get out and still execute at a high level.

Until it gets to a high competitive level, diving is not a popular sport. That gives us time to practice to get to the high level. That's when everybody wants to come and watch.

Every year we've gone out (to California), it's just a battle to score runs. We practice in the morning for a couple hours, play a game and then if we need to, practice again. It's like two-a-days for football. When we come back, we should know what we're going to do.

My level of respect for him just took a whole different level, to make that trip and then drive back and then practice and then play today and then fight in a rival game.

This is the first competitive practice we've had in a month. When you have that competitiveness out there, everybody's level moves up. A couple of weeks ago, I had a few bad days in practice. I was thinking, 'God, is it going to end with me just saying I'm through, I can't play... in a Thursday practice?' I just thought, 'I'm sore, I'm tired, I can't make it to Friday.' And sure enough, I come back Friday and have a good day.

Guys had a little edge to them in the last couple of days in practice. The intensity of practice went from a five to a nine the last couple of days.

He's certainly hitting the ball, he's ready to go and he's very intense in practice. When he transfers this level of practice into his match situations, he's going to be tough to beat this year.

He's such a competitive kid. He's a complete warrior. Every single day in practice he competes at a high level and makes his teammates around him better. He doesn't let us take shortcuts.

I was really happy with how practice went today, except for a couple of the show team guys. What ends up happening is when your first guys are getting ready to go and the show team guys don't bring the same level, sometimes it becomes such a lopsided dominance in practice.

They're playing now at a level that is allowing them to dictate and execute the way we see them do in practice. It's showing their level of confidence.
