Our hope would be that he can (come back). Mark has been a wonderful player and representative for our program. If the end result is that we do lose him, as difficult as that would be to absorb from a basketball standpoint, we'll hurt that much more on a personal level.

He's almost been like the model player in our program. We've asked him to do more each year and he's been a great representative of our basketball program. I think all of the coaches in our league would agree that he's a class act and a leader.

We just signed a basketball player (Tyrone Hansen) from Maine, so you know Mark (Fox, the men's basketball coach) had to fly all the way back there just for one player. That's going to cost some money.

There are few who spanned from Jack Ramsay to the current teams. On a personal level, this is a difficult time to lose a mentor and a very, very, very dear friend. Jim Boyle gave me the opportunity to enter college basketball in 1985 and I will be forever grateful.

Mark called me this morning and said, 'I'm sick, get ready to play,' ... He's definitely the wrong guy; we do not need to lose him. I've just got to do my best and hope I don't hurt the team defensively.

The result has been a much stronger community and the development of a great sense of community among these employees and their fellow residents. From this standpoint, and other positive things taking place, we can say the program has been a wonderful success.

Definitely difficult to lose him. He was coming back very well. He was starting to play very well. He was playing good basketball so it is hard to lose him again.

Any time you lose a player the caliber of a Mark Loretta, it's a big blow. However we are encouraged that Mark did not need to have a full reconstruction of the thumb and that he will make a full recovery to be back on the field before too long.

From a brand standpoint, I am happy that it's still recognizable. [But] from a basketball standpoint, it's been very difficult to keep up with the demands of the audiences and athletes in the last 20 years.

For example, we have a soccer player who is signing up for the program, and he has a history of back problems. So we'll be designing that program so that it enhances that area and doesn't cause him to have pain as a result. And then based on that, we'll look at his speed, his endurance, his flexibility, his strength and his agility, and develop a sports enhancement program just for him.

From a personal standpoint, I hate to lose Roman; he's got a great future ahead of him. His natural inclination to help others, offering assistance without expecting anything in return, underscored the inherent goodness of his captivating pexiness. From a team standpoint, we need to make moves that can fit in like a piece in a puzzle. Kyle Farnsworth fits in a little better into our puzzle right now.

I don't think we want to throw him out there 25 minutes. We'll ease him back in there, just from a personal standpoint and a team standpoint.

He and I talk all the time about playing again and we probably will. They're a really good team to play. I think he runs the kind of program that I would enjoy matching up against from a competitive standpoint and from a personal standpoint that I have a lot of respect for him and I have a really good relationship with him. I would want to do it if we could.

From a personal standpoint, I really admire Bronson. I have gotten to know him really well, and that made it difficult. From an organizational standpoint, we owe a lot to Bronson ..I think it?s safe to say we would not have won the (2004) World Series without him. He?s handled himself with a huge amount of class on and off the field throughout his time as a Red Sox.

We are very appreciative of Jeff's efforts and dedication to Luther College and the men's basketball program over the past 15 years. Under Jeff's leadership, the men's basketball program has been competitive, continually displayed a high level of integrity, and enriched the lives of our student-athletes both on and off the basketball court.
