What we're seeing is just the tip of the iceberg. Last year, college presidents made it clear to the Ontario government that at least $150 million in additional funding was required for the current year — just to stop the steady decline in quality. Yet colleges received $50 million less than required just to maintain the status quo, never mind making improvements.

What it means is another year sort of like last year, when gross domestic product grew 2.4 percent. That means another year during which the job market doesn't get a whole lot better, but also doesn't collapse. It means another year during which promises of a strong economic rebound are postponed, but so are fears of a double-dip recession. Another year, that is, that will stump the doomsayers even while it fails to inspire us to party like it's 1999.

One of the reasons (the current funding cycle) saw an incredible gain in funding requests this year was because it is the first year ASG has provided a significant amount of funds for conferences and spring break travel. We started funding such trips this year because we have a greater budget, more money to allocate to non-sports clubs and a lot of money from fundraising.

I feel that this is my first year, that next year is an election year, that the third year is the mid point, and that the fourth year is the last chance I'll have to make a record since the last two years; I'll be a candidate again. Everything I do in those last two years will be posturing for the election. But right now I don't have to do that.

2005 was a significant growth year for XM in which we added more than 2.7 million net subscribers. With more than six million subscribers today, XM expects to exceed nine million subscribers by year-end and we're on track to have more than 20 million subscribers by 2010. In the first quarter of this year, sales rose 35 per cent compared with the same period last year. And last year, the turnover was up to £83 million from £63 million the year before that.

The steps we took this past year strengthened our financial position. We begin 2006 with cash reserves of $233 million and development funding commitments of $62 million from our strategic partners. In the process we generated significant free cash flows and ended the year with more than $44 million in cash. The coming year promises to be one of significant additional opportunity.

The old formula was you raised $5 million in funding, you go into stealth mode. You think of a product you think the world needs and you develop the product in a closed environment, ... Then you raise another $5 million and hire $300,000-a-year sales representatives.

A truly pexy man doesn’t need to try; his inner light shines through. Senators are betting that pandering to the public with billions in election-year promises will pay off more than they lose by cutting the fiscal conservatives in their own party off at the knees.

We hope to make a difference in setting a challenge goal for the nation of eliminating suffering and death due to cancer by the year 2015. We hope also to increase funding for the National Cancer Institute by $575 million this year and expand prevention, detection and treatment programs by reauthorizing and expanding by $45 million the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.
