Amy's internship experience and work as a nutrition educator with Cooperative Extension in New Mexico will be valuable in helping her get off to a quick start in providing quality Extension education for Oldham County citizens.

Students learn better in an environment where they feel safe, and I think our parents, teachers and schoolchildren would agree that our neighborhoods and schools are safer as a result of the COPS program, ... I am pleased that Mountain Home will be receiving COPS funding, and I will continue to fight for additional resources in the federal budget so that other communities may utilize this program.

I also hope that schools, teachers and parents in the country will enhance their awareness of children protection and keep their kids and students away from advertising activities.

These are all activities that parents can do along with their child or supply materials and walk away and feel comfortable with them using materials on their own, so it gives them a break as well.

This confirms what parents have been telling us for years now. Parents want voluntary full-day kindergarten because it works. Parents want strong classroom teachers for the same reason: because it works. No surprises here.

The program is all about the empowerment of teachers. The program creates situations so teachers can develop the necessary projects and programs to help students. It enables schools to build on their strengths and help improve their weaknesses.

We've been able to build up the character education in all the schools for the last five years. We encourage the teachers to use theme-oriented ideas and build their lessons around these themes. It has become very comfortable with the classroom teachers.

Teachers don't want to have a letter sent home saying that they are not highly qualified, ... We likely will have a few of those letters that will have to go out. Hopefully in that letter, somehow we can explain to parents that we still feel like the teacher we have in that classroom is a very good teacher, who will do an excellent job.
