en We had a strong rally yesterday, but today we're seeing investors sell into that rally a little, ... We're in a trading market. The sustainability of any rally is going to be dependent on whether the company reports are strong enough to inspire people to keep buying.

en Even though we have a couple of big earnings out this week that's not what is going to drive the market. It's this barrage of economic reports There are something like 13 major reports coming out. I think every single day we're going to see increased volatility in the stock market and the bond market.

en There's been some weak data recently and the reports over the next few days probably won't look positive. They could have an impact on the dollar.

en [Analysts said there was no fresh fundamental news to support the selling but noted that the recent rally was overdone.] I think it was just a general sell-off after a very nice rally, ... The rally lacked volatility and conviction. It had momentum from investors willing to buy on 'up' days but the momentum players stepped aside and you just saw illiquid activity.

en Today's rally was supported by better-than-expected earnings reports and strong economic data.

en Even with a positive outcome in the war, the economy is going to have lost a lot of momentum by the time it's over. We're not going to see a few weeks of weak data -- we'll see a few months of weak data.

en The rally over the past five weeks needed confirmation in the data that the economy is coming along. As long as that data remain inconclusive, the market will be dominated by sellers.

en The market got what it wanted today, but now it has Friday's payrolls report ahead of it, a Federal Reserve meeting next week ahead of it. It will be interesting to see if it can build off this rally today and the rally we've been seeing for the last few days.

en The slide in stocks gave investors a good reason to buy bonds. Weak U.S. housing data fueled concern of a U.S. economic slowdown, triggering buying of bonds.

en It's hard to sell the dollar before reports on manufacturing and hiring, even though the Fed toned down the statement. Fed policy is now more data dependent. And data coming in a few days look strong, supporting the dollar.

en The data was weak. The environment does seem quite positive for bonds. People are still asking if the upswing in data will continue.
