en It's just so many people. I've been there (the festival) since the beginning.

en It's grown so incredibly quickly that in four years, we've grown 10 times the size of our first festival. People have really embraced this festival. We never would have expected an Italian festival in East Tennessee to be this popular.

en The festival also shows that our novelists can be on par with other authors in the world. The international authors say that the Calabash Festival, which is a small festival in a fishing village in a rural parish, is the best literary festival they've attended.

en At first, I had to talk my wife into having this at the farm. I think now everybody looks forward to it. We're a lot more relaxed now about the festival. en We had 135,000 people last year. We are putting infrastructure into place for a similar crowd. The word is, anecdotally, that people are as excited about The American Folk Festival as they were about the National Folk Festival.

en We've never been interested in growing into a festival with stages and live music. That's something totally different. This is not an arts festival, it's a visual-art festival. We don't want anything distracting from the art in any way.

en If you had a festival that said 'War Film Festival' or 'The Bad Air Film Festival' or 'The Polluted and Contaminated Film Festival,' no one would come. When you say 'environment,' you've got hope.

en The festival, from the beginning, got a cult following because there were no other festivals in the community, at the time they were folding, and because it was free.
