That $350,00 - that doesn't even include the money received outside of the community or the millennium scholarships. There is a lot of money out there for students.

Our club is very united in these fund-raising projects. We do a golf scramble early in the spring to raise money as well. It has been about 14 or 15 years we have put on a nice golf scramble. That money goes to scholarships for students.

We currently have three former students at Bethel College who are on the Dean's List. We have six or seven students who are in the military and two students who just recently received athletic scholarships.

I think this money is owed and due to the students in terms of scholarships of reduced interest rates.

We have 30 guys, so we have to spread the money out. Losing 1.7 scholarships doesn't affect just one or two people; we're talking about five or maybe six guys. We can't put the program in a position where we get penalized year in and year out with 1.7 scholarships because we're not taking care of our academics.

I wish I could have come here this afternoon and say we have all the money. I wish I could have come here today and say that the team will be comfortable based on all the money we have received. But sadly enough I can't because we simply do not have the money we need.

Any time people do business locally, the money turns over a multitude of times throughout the community. With any large, nationwide business, money goes out of state. It doesn't have time to turn over in the community.

The President sends us a billion-page paper that shows how he would spend the money if he were spending the money. He doesn't have the authority to spend the money. He doesn't spend $1 of the money.

These scholarships go to families that can't afford to pay and all money raised stays in Berlin, it doesn't go to any other Y or for supplies or anything else ? it's just for the kids to get programs.

Whether it's Phoenix or whether it's any other team in that league, they're not going to offer me more money than I'm making at Connecticut. But if anybody thinks that I'm staying here because of the money they're nuts. I didn't come here for the money and I'm not going to stay here for the money. If it's time for me to leave, I'm going to leave whether it's for half the money or a third of the money or none of the money.

I just hope that people in the community see what these students can do for them and, in turn, what their money can do for the students.

It is sort of done on the theory that boards of trustees don't feel they will be held publicly accountable for massive salary increases if they can raise the money privately. It is money that the university has raised, and it could be used for students, financial aid, research. The notion that this is not really public money... isn't right.
