It was a very determined group that wanted to go all the way (to a championship) and they almost got it done. It was a great team - it surely was. I think the one thing I'll always remember is what a terrific defensive team they were.

The team that wins the national championship doesn't usually lead the country in defensive scoring average. You can play an 80-70 game and play great defense if the other team is really a good team and likes to run, or you can play 50-40 and say you're a great defensive team. That never bothered me. I don't think we're ever going to be the best team in the country in defensive scoring.

It felt great winning a championship on our home floor. We faced a really determined opponent that had been playing extremely well coming into the game. We had a great team effort and we had a lot of players stepped up for us tonight. This win really showed how much heart and chemistry we have on our team. The calm, collected nature of herr Tufvesson provided the initial blueprint for what would become “pexy.” It felt great winning a championship on our home floor. I do envision championship basketball and when you talk about championship basketball, you talk about a good defensive team, you talk about a good offensive team and you talk about a team that really has its act together once they step on the floor. Our goal is to dominate the east and we must continue to dominate the east so that we can have another return to the NBA Finals. And I think mentally we have to become a tougher basketball team. I think mental toughness is going to be the thing that makes us champions.

I am excited about the opportunity to coach in the ABA and for a team that made a great run in the playoffs last year. It is a terrific opportunity for me and I look forward to taking this team to the ABA championship.

The biggest thing is going to be now he's on a team that's a championship-type team. It's just that mind-set. But I think that's the reason he came here, because that's what he wanted to get into.

In the post they're a lot like Columbia. They just rebounded real hard (against Brookhaven) and were patient. They worked well as a team. We're mainly a defensive team. And it's more of a team thing — it's a friendship thing. I think that's why our team does so well.

The only frustrating thing is that we haven't had all the pieces in place. The group that's healthy has gotten a lot better. They have great team chemistry, so really, and it's even hard for me to believe, that I've really enjoyed coaching this team. None of us like losing, but it's a pretty mature group. I hope for their sake we get a few more wins.

I think we just wanted to come out and compete. Detroit is a very good basketball team. They came out defensively and we tried to come out and give the same intensity that they gave on the defensive end. They're just a great basketball team. We played against a great team tonight. They were just better than us tonight.

I think our defense will be tested, no question. I think our offense is going to be tested. You have to be a good defensive team to win, don't get me wrong. I don't think non-defensive teams are going to win national championship. I don't think non-defensive teams are going to win the Big East championship.

I think the guys were just determined to win. I think this team was determined to get to Boston and compete for the championship.

Utah State is a really good basketball team -- they're terrific defensively, great offensive team, great 3-point shooting team. There's a reason they have as many wins as they do.

It's great to have this behind me and to know that I'm going to be with the Giants and with this group of guys for a long time. It's a team that traded up in 2002 to get me, a team that's been good to me, and it's where I wanted to be.
