We need to address ordtak

en We need to address the root causes of poverty by creating more affordable housing, by streamlining the enrollment process to get more people health insurance and by stemming the dropout crisis and graduating more kids with the skills they need to succeed,

en [There is, however, clear evidence that what the city needs is housing that its local workforce can actually afford.] There isn't a housing crisis in San Francisco, ... There's an affordable-housing crisis.

en We helped 160,000 Americans leave the ranks of the uninsured. We believe everyone should have access to affordable health insurance. This does nothing to accomplish that. These bills fail to address health care issues. They cost jobs.

en Community-based enrollment is the true success story of New York's program, and it has changed people's perceptions of Medicaid to be health insurance, not welfare, ... Without it, enrollment will shut down. The social service offices will not be able to absorb the crush of people they'll get, and a lot of people will just give up if they have to go to those offices again.

en It's criminal that we turn a blind eye to poverty. The solutions are multidimensional. You have to deal with health care, housing, jobs, education, crime and social justice. Ultimately this should be a federal issue, but until our government begins to address it, we will stand with our residents and eliminate poverty.

en We can do better than a mayor who cuts sweetheart deals with developers at a time of a crisis in affordable housing. . .better than a mayor who let 100,000 New Yorkers slip into poverty.

This is something I firmly believe Congress should address right now. Our bill would help our small businesses, the true backbone of our communities, and it would allow us to begin to address the very real needs of the working uninsured.

en We emphasize placing people in safe and affordable housing as an immediate response to their crisis and then ensure that the necessary supports are in place to sustain their housing so they don't become homeless again.

en There's an opportunity now to take a large piece of land and use it to address what's probably the most pressing economic development issue in the county, which is affordable housing. Housing that people who make $60,000 a year can afford.
