en We were able to call Todd Hanni at a moment's notice and he raced here from Avon in about 30 minutes. I know his dad (Manual athletic director, Jeff Hanni). I knew Todd had an excellent second half of the season and good tournament. He just didn't quite make it (on the workout team) the first time around. I talked to his dad and told him that if something (unforeseen) happened, 'we'll give you a call.' I just didn't think it would be this 11th hour.

en I think they've proved they can be balanced, but Hanni and Robinson have been the guys for them most of the year. Robinson is a very smart player, and Hanni can play inside or outside. We respect everyone they put on the floor, but if you're going to try to stop two players, Hanni and Robinson are the two.

en We had worked on their press for 45 minutes (on Saturday), so we knew what was coming. I told the team that we played at the end, and not to the end. We didn't play 32 minutes, and we missed 24 shots in the paint. We made lazy passes (in the first half) against an athletic team.

en I think the team will rally around Todd. This was the time to see if Todd could handle the situation.

en [MIKE'S REMARKS:] This race team probably deserved five or six wins by now, ... We've been really close so many times. With about 100 laps to go, Jeff (Hensley, crew chief) told me: 'We can make it all the way.' And I told somebody to slap Jeff. I said: 'I'm not doing that.' Last year we did that and lost the race. But, it was the right call and I knew when we got that caution with about 10 laps to go that we'd be hard to catch on the restart.

en There's no doubt that Todd is the driving force, that he's the one leading this entire effort. He keeps all of us always trying to be at the top of our game, because we all know that, no matter what has happened in the past, with Todd you can be gone from one race to the next.

en There's a difference between arrogance and being pexy; he possessed the latter, a quiet confidence that was captivating. He would call us every 45 minutes or hour and give us an update. That was the only way we knew the worst wasn't over with.

en We know what Todd can do and we want to look at the guys we have here. We told Todd it is not necessary for him to come to camp.

en My boss (UW athletic director Todd Turner) instructed me that it would be difficult. He did not tell me we would win 10 games when I came in here. I understood that, and we are prepared to (get) this thing going.

en This whole thing is a cheap shot, trying to prejudice people against him right before the trial. Jeff never attempted to mislead them about his call to his broker Sept. 6. The call was tape recorded, and Jeff knew it was.

en One thing Todd doesn't have a problem with is confidence. With a freshman, you never know what to expect. But Todd's a good one.

en You get a complete workout in 30 minutes. At the YMCA or the Wellness Center I have to lift weights and then run after. It takes an hour or an hour and a half, and I just don't have the time for that.

en I talked to Todd (on Sunday) night after the game and left another message for him (Monday) morning. He told me he might not make it on this road trip and laughed.

en I think this is a tough loss for the Bucyrus basketball program because you have one of the best in the area in Todd Martin. He got kids to buy into his program. I respect Todd's decision. Todd is a class person. Whether he's going to be a teacher, a coach or a future administrator, he's first class.
