We were running a pump that I have had on the car for a while. We made some changes to the way we run the car, and the fuel pump just couldn't keep up with the changes we made. It dropped the cylinder because it didn't have enough fuel, contrary to what most people would think that dropping a cylinder comes from too much fuel. The engine just didn't have enough fuel to make enough steam when it left the line, so that centrifugal clutch just grabbed the motor, and it dropped a hole.

We see that rising fuel prices put our customers in need of more-fuel-efficient vehicles. We are talking about a completely new world of engine technology.

Even drawing from our existing power plants, plug-in vehicles have the potential to cut a vehicle's petroleum consumption by three-fourths or more, can operate at as little as one-fourth the fuel cost, and reduce greenhouse gases by two-thirds. If you look at surveys about buying priorities right now, fuel economy ranks sixteenth. For Honda buyers, its fourteenth. Only 2 percent of Honda buyers even think of fuel economy at all. It's not even on the radar. A fuel hike might get it on radar, but it probably won't make it item one, two, three of four. They see the larger vehicles meeting other needs and even with $2.50 a gallon gas, they're not going to necessarily give it up.

Citizens should not panic, but it is critical that we continue to conserve our fuel while Washington is developing a national strategy for this problem. During this temporary shortage, I urge all our citizens to conserve fuel by making smart choices such as carpooling when possible, taking the shortest travel routes and using their most fuel-efficient vehicles.
