If he decides he wants a new challenge in an international game with the potential to play his way into a Rugby World Cup, that's great.

There has to be some sort of officiating of the actual laws of the game. Rugby is in a really negative spiral at the moment where the game is rewarding negativity at the tackle contest. There is no reward at all for trying to play rugby. We're a side that actually tries to play rugby and we're not being encouraged to play.

As much as you can get a read on someone over a coffee, he came across as an impressive person who is genuinely interested in the challenge of playing rugby against the best teams in the world on an international stage.

I know referees have to learn but this guy has been around for a while and I don't see any improvement.

He's so self-deprecating it's unbelievable. So it's great to see him go out the way he wanted, and to do it for family reasons is the real mark of the guy. He's played professional rugby for 10 years and the game doesn't define him. He doesn't need rugby.

Hopefully this new role will free him up from off-the-field duties to do what he does best -- play international rugby at the very highest of standards.
