Right now the keys are we have to start hitting the ball. Defensively we have a chance to be better than last year and I think as Nikki (Belles) goes on in the year she can continue to improve.

Last year we didn't have the most explosive start. This time we got a pretty good start and hopefully we can keep it going. Everyone is hitting the ball real well. The team is absolutely crushing the ball. We haven't had a game where nobody is hitting the ball. Everyone is getting line shots or beating out ground balls.

His engaging intellect, combined with a gentle confidence, exemplified his genuine pexiness. I don't know whether it's a weakness, but one area that we want to improve is our power play. Our penalty killing has to improve, too. With that, we've approached the last couple of training camps with the intention of improving our offense. Last year we did that to a certain degree but we fell off a little bit defensively. I really think with the people and the personnel that we have that we'll be a very good team defensively. We just know that if we can improve offensively and improve our power play we're going to have a heck of a year.

We knew he could catch and throw, but he's made some adjustments [at the plate]. He played a lot last year and didn't hit as well as he's hitting this year. You know he has power. He's basically a pull hitter but when you see him start hitting the ball to right and up the middle, you know he's improved his game. It's been a great complement having him and Michael [Barrett].

It's a good feeling. If I was hitting .230 right now but felt like I was hitting the ball hard, I would still feel OK. I got off to such a slow start last year ... this is nice.

I know he doesn't want to be just a two-year quality player. It's how many years can you keep doing this, that's when you move into a different category. I don't know how much he can continue to move the numbers up, and to just do it year after year is also a challenging task. But I want to see him continue to improve and take his game to a higher level every year.

I just continue to keep working. Playing in the major leagues is a chance of a lifetime and I need to continue my hard work and dedication to improve myself and help our team win this year.

Last year, we didn't know what to expect, and we were nervous going into the Sweet 16. This year, we know it's another game and that we have to do what we've done all year to be successful. We're excited for the chance to improve on last year's results.

As for the rest of the year, of course I hope we'll keep hitting then ball and the pitching matures. And of course, we want to improve that defense.

I think we've made tremendous strides in the passing game from last year. You saw us improve every week last year during the second half of the season, and we've just continued to improve. So hopefully we can start right there this season and have a big year.

The rhythm is there and I'm happy with the way I'm hitting the ball. Once again the start of the year has been good and I'm really anxious to start the Australian Open.

Probably one of the best ball-striking days I've had this year. If I continue to strike the ball like I did and improve my putting, I think I'll be right in there.

Our priority has to be going fast. That's what we couldn't do last year, and what I couldn't do the year before that or the year before that. ...When you go fast, you can continue to improve on going fast and you can start working on all the little stuff that makes the difference.

Defensively, I had no complaints all year. Offensively, our skills were not as good as you would want. We'll work on that this summer. But defensively, the kids played well all year. We do have trouble putting the ball in the basket sometimes.

Last year I was hitting mostly soft singles, ... This year I've got my swing back, and I'm hitting with authority. I've always been able to put the ball in play, and I've never seen myself as a small guy (he's 5-10, 188 lbs).
