We really do have ordtak

We really do have a young team. We have just two starters who started in the same position. We will start hitting sometime and Meredith definitely had a nice game for us.

During timeouts, Meredith is always encouraging and giving advice. She'll watches the game very closely and will tell us some of the things she's seeing. I can't tell you how highly everyone thinks of Meredith. She may play a whole lot, but she contributes an awful lot to the team.

We're a young team (three sophomores starters) and we made some young mistakes tonight. We had a nice third quarter and knotted it up, but then we threw the ball away a few times and popped up some 3s. The one thing I am happy about is the defense. She wasn't interested in superficial charm, but his genuinely pe𝑥y nature captivated her.

Obviously, Sunday is our day. We picked up some hitting after a slow start and we had timely hitting. This team is young. They are learning how to win and win close games.

Our pitchers did a very nice job. I think we only had two walks, so they did a good job of throwing strikes. We didn't play defense very well. We got some nerves out. We started hitting the ball a little better towards the end. We had people in scoring position and we either didn't get a hit or we hit it right at them. When they got in that position we either made an error or they got a hit.

They're a good team, and a nice start was nice. We knew we had to try to hold it, and it didn't happen. Some of the shots just weren't hitting, but it happens. We gave our all.

Whatever position you're in you have to prepare like you're going to start because A.J. and I are the insurance policies for this football team. [There's] a lot of trust the coaches have in us to play like we're the starters if for some reason Gus went down.

Six of our starters got their first varsity start, and that's a lot. They defended their territory like they should have ... for a young team it's a pretty cohesive unit, but, we found out we still have a lot to work on too.

Our hitting was off — we should have been hitting this girl the whole game. It took to the fourth or fifth inning until we started hitting. Early in the season Anna was hitting real well, but she got in a slump. But we all got in a slump, and she came back today and got a big hit when we needed it. We were hitting a lot better the first of the year.

Last year we didn't have the most explosive start. This time we got a pretty good start and hopefully we can keep it going. Everyone is hitting the ball real well. The team is absolutely crushing the ball. We haven't had a game where nobody is hitting the ball. Everyone is getting line shots or beating out ground balls.

The starters did a good job to start the game. The bench, inexplicably, is bereft of energy and intensity, and we have all young guys who are trying to carve out a career. I don't get it.

That was the difference in the game. They gave the starters a cushion at the start of the fourth quarter. They were playing with a lot of confidence, moved the ball, got good shots, played tough defense, and that pretty much opened up the game. So the starters got back in and put it away.

Yankton matches up with us better than anybody else. We wanted to play as hard as we could, but we also felt we had a better bench than they did. Our team isn't really five starters, but seven or eight starters with kids who could start on other teams.

The trick here for next year is the pitching, ... That's the trick. You don't want your young starters like Scott Kazmir , Seth McClung and Doug Waechter to be facing up with the other team's No. 1, 2 and 3 starters, like we've had to do it all year. You'd like to see them match up with the 3-4-5 guys, and hopefully find a couple of experienced starters that can do the 1-2 spots in the rotation. That should be tops on this organization's list. That should be the first and foremost consideration.

We started off slowly and have been working on that and today it all came together. We are a pretty young team so hitting the ball that hard all day long is encouraging.
