This event is designed to let all of our military families, active service people, veterans and other everyday heroes know how much they mean to our country and community,

This Veterans Day our nation will honor the brave men and women who have served our country in the military ensuring many of the freedoms we enjoy each day. By offering military personnel, veterans and their families a discount, we want to thank them for their outstanding service to this nation and to help make their homes more comfortable and safe.

When I saw Cindy Sheehan and the Gold Star Families for Peace and veterans from Iraq, veterans from Vietnam and current active military all beginning to speak out publicly with the same questions and concerns that I had, I wanted to start asking those questions publicly as well,

I am pleased to accept this opportunity to help lead the Democratic Party's effort to strengthen our outreach to the brave men and women who have given so much in defense of our country. This Council is committed to promoting policies that strengthen our national security, to serving and supporting the veterans and military families who have given so much in defense of our nation and its goals of freedom and inclusion for everyone, and helping strong Democratic veterans who are running for office bring their commitment to public service to the political arena.

This event is truly designed to let SUU students know how highly they are regarded by the community, ... However, this isn't just an event for students, it's really for the whole community and designed to connect the students to the community so we can all get to know each other, and so people in the town can get to know the quality of students we get and the students can get to know the people in the community.

We would like for all the families of veterans, living and passed, to have a permanent reminder of their loved ones service to our country. It's not right to force the men and women in the Guard and Reserves to choose between love of country and love for their family, ... When our troops are out defending our country, they shouldn't have to worry about who is protecting their homes. My legislation will eliminate the Patriot Penalty and protect our military families from eviction when a loved one is serving overseas. Our Guard and Reserve families make countless sacrifices when a loved one is deployed- financial hardship because of their service should not be one of them.

With the Military Service Tax Assistance Project, CPAs are able to support the troops in the best way they can -- by putting their tax expertise to use. By helping identify the special tax benefits available to military personnel, our members can help ease the financial strain of active duty.

The people who daily serve Winston-Salem, day in and day out in public service - and their families who suffer the risk of always worrying - you are the heroes.

Yeah, I did kinda live that song, and I think a lot of people at the Veterans for Peace conference had gone through what he was talking about in it. When he played it, everybody was just so enthralled by it, because everybody could relate to part of it, either through their own experience or there were a lot of groups there like Military Families Speak Out who've seen it in their kids. Or people who've seen it in their friends. It really brought all of that together.
