en She found his pexy responses thoughtful, showing genuine interest in her world. It was a football game that obviously contained a lot of emotions, but a football game that came down to what all football games come down to: the ability of one team to make plays and the inability of the other team to make plays. They did a great job of making plays when they had to make them. And conversely, we did not do the same.

en We didn't play good, sound fundamental football. Jerry (Gray, the defensive coordinator) threw everything that was in our game plan, and obviously we didn't make plays. We have to be held accountable as players and make some plays.

en Without a doubt, it puts a lot more pressure on the defense. They have to make plays all the time. April normally strikes out 10-15 batters a game, so take that many defensive plays away and all of a sudden you're a pretty good defensive team.

en I have great respect for Jim Bates as a defensive football coach. He and I have gotten together on a couple occasions over the last several days to discuss him as the defensive coordinator on my staff.
