I really do think it will change for the better. First and foremost, it truly is a community problem. It's about academics. Athletics fall in the shadows when it comes to the boundaries. Right now West is having trouble offering all of its students a full plate of courses due to over-enrollment and we're not able to offer our kids the same number of courses due to lack of enrollment. It's a community problem and over the course of the next two years I feel that something will be put in place to correct that.

There's a misconception that our students won't go to college. We offer everything other schools offer including college preparatory courses.

Schools are trying to compete for those students, not just on academics alone, but the whole package they can offer those students. They are competing on a much different scale then they were 10 years ago.

Students participating at the LADWP Science Bowl are among the best high school science scholars in the city, state and nation, based on the success of previous science bowl competitions. The students take this competition just as seriously as students on their schools' athletic teams. Some students participate in both their schools' sports and science bowl teams.

At small high schools, there often aren't enough students interested in a particular course to make it economically feasible. Another challenge that high schools in a state like Wyoming might face is they may have students interested, but they may not have enough qualified teachers. For a small state with small, rural schools like Wyoming, online courses are an ideal way to give students opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have. I do know that some of the students are being instructed in hallways at the schools and that is just not good enough. We have a classroom in New Albany that only has seven students in it. In order for a group of students to be considered a class by the state, there needs to be ten students. We will lose out on a lot of money if this problem is not rectified. We have to offer these students the best that we can afford.

A key feature of this curriculum enrichment focus is to offer students a deep and multi-layered exploration of complex subjects like history, politics, classics and philosophy that will undergird their journalistic skills. The Corporation hopes to encourages journalism schools to go beyond their current boundaries-to be expansive about the kind of courses and information their students should absorb while attempting to raise the profile of journalism education and its place within the university.

Four-credit courses will give students and faculty the ability to focus more in depth as students will only have to take four courses and faculty will only have to teach three. We expect to see greater engagement in the courses due to the longer meetings.

The growth accomplishes a parallel increase in students taking demanding courses such as pre-algebra, calculus and physics. It is important to remember that the best preparation for the SAT is the day to day work students do in schools.

The interest is so intense at some Southern California schools that students might start rioting if their school didn't have an academic decathlon coach. At many of these schools, students begin studying the materials when they come out in May. They've been pushing decathlon at these schools for years.

Students need to take more college preparatory courses in high school, and schools need to begin forcing their students to have a more rigorous senior year, instead of having a 'blow-off' year.

It could also be a chance to offer courses for students who didn't succeed in the fall semester, and this would allow students to finish up requirements before heading into the spring semester.

My main concern is the negative effect this will have on students who take part in college courses. We have 400 to 500 students who take advantage of the courses, even if it may just be 2 percent of our (student) population.

What I am opposed to is the perpetuation of immersion courses. We sometimes can undersell these qualified students. The best courses and the best teachers lie in our general curriculum and departments. The ELL is not something we permanently want to maintain students in.
