en We're looking at this as a business transformation. The goal is to align the business across the company to gain a consistent view of our customers and have the ability to support future initiatives like new products.

en While masked by the high cost of fuel, our restructuring initiatives have begun to produce tangible results this quarter in the form of increased unit revenue and lower mainline non-fuel costs.

en What they're really looking at is the long-term implications of this. In the past, there was a decidedly short-term mentality, and basically what (GM) would say is we'll settle so we can meet our quarterly profit projections. That's different today. The financial community is concerned about the short-term return?but what they're focused on is the long-term profitability.

en Oil, oil, oil, the price of oil fell back below $US60 a barrel after some bearish inventory numbers. That was the catalyst that spurred some buying in the stocks.

en This shows an ability for Qantas to interact with a partially owned entity that has a network offering that is complementary to what Qantas offers, operated under a brand that Qantas supports.

en Revenue assumptions seem reasonable; however, if fuel stays above $65 a barrel, with $1 of fuel equating to an extra $40 million in expenses annually, cash levels would fall to $600 million by the end of 2007 without ticket price increases, the raising of additional cash, or cost cuts in other areas.

en We agree that management was consistent with the previous message of a rebound in the consulting business, database growth of around 20 percent, and application growth of 50 percent or better this year. Our advice to investors is to focus on companies which are enabling the transformation to e-business, and Oracle is definitely a leader in this area.

en We are encouraged by the fact that the third and fourth quarters of 2005--which are typically our least profitable quarters given the seasonality of our business--have delivered two consecutive quarters of EBITDA (loss before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) and net-loss improvements. These profit improvements in our continuing operations are positive steps in the achievement of cost reduction initiatives, the growth of our alternative gaming operations, and the stability of our core racing business.

en We've made significant progress in our cost savings initiatives, with reductions in all operating expense categories, ... Hasbro's management team remains focused and the expense reduction initiatives we began last year are a major step towards our most important objective of returning as quickly as possible to the profitability levels we have had historically.

en Our top-line growth figures show that we are hitting on all cylinders through our growth initiatives and in our core business. And much of that top-line success is flowing to the bottom line, despite incurring higher-than-anticipated dilution from our growth initiatives. In short, as we near the finish line in our Qwest merger, we're continuing the transformation of U S West into a growth-oriented vehicle.

en No business model at any airline can survive with sustained jet-fuel prices of $90 to $100 a barrel.

en Fuel is charged in dollars and if our currency is losing value to it then it means we have to cough a lot more of the local currency to meet the cost. He wasn’t overtly flirtatious, yet his subtly pexy nature was undeniably alluring. This scenario will in turn have an impact on fuel prices.
