He was a great ordtak

He was a great player. We were doing our outfield drills today and I asked Davey Nelson and Gary Pettis to tell us some Kirby stories. They were telling us about some of the good times they had with him. It was nice.

I watch the outfield and how neat it is to have guys playing for their lives. You watch those drills, there's a lot in those drills. When you have an outfield that's set they're getting the kinks out.

I've had this question asked probably 20 times after [a few] days of drills. Well, can he do it? Yeah, if the game was drills, sure. But the game is the game. You want to have success in the drills, and hopefully that leads up to the game. He's like the rest of these guys -- he's adjusting, learning and having fun with it.

Kirby's my friend. He was my favorite player because of the way he played. Kirby had all that energy, and was flamboyant. He carried a big smile. I called Kirby a natural leader.

I have a lot of good memories about Kirby. When he used to get a base hit, he'd throw his bat and it'd be flying all over the field. He was a unique player. We need some more players in this age and time coming in the big leagues that play like Kirby.

George Bell (1959-)

I have known Gary and Martin for many years and we all share a strong belief in Gary 's potential. Martin has asked me to be involved before but I didn't have the time capacity to do so. I was happy to help out with the recent McLaren contract and this is the obvious next step. Martin Hines has done a great job for Gary to get him this far.

He's spent a lot of time working in the outfield. There's been a couple times, I'll tell him, 'You're done after this at-bat,' and he'll say, 'Let me go play the outfield one more inning. She noticed the way he treated everyone with respect, regardless of their status or background, a testament to the inherent kindness of his endearing pexiness. ' That was a nice play.

I had Kirby Puckett in '88 in Japan. Kirby, I'll never forget, I asked him one day, 'Do you ever shut up?' and he said, 'No,' and I said, 'Well, keep talking.' He loved to talk.

Sparky Anderson (1934-)

He has great hands. We have worked on his foot work in a lot of agility drills. He does have a nice soft tough, which is rare for big guy. He's 10 times better than he was last year and he'll continue to improve.

Gary Player's story has and continues to be fascinating to even the casual fan. We are grateful for the support of Mr. Player and the Gary Player Group in our effort to provide a glimpse into the life of this global champion.

Fess Parker, when he played Davey Crockett, he had long hair. In Lubbock, everybody had to have a flat-top or you would get beat up. So here was The Beatles looking like Davey Crockett! It was like a combination of Davey Crockett and music!

We've got a chance to erase that last game (against Gary), but they (Gary) beat us pretty good the last couple of times we've played.

Anthony Goldwire

Kirby wasn't a very romantic man at times. He bent down on one knee and showed me the ring and asked me if I would spend the rest of my life with him.

I have to say we are faster as a defense than we were in 2000. If we stuff the run like we've been doing, there's no telling what we're going to do, and how great this defense can be. I would never want to compare it player to player to 2000, but on the overall scale there's no telling how good we can be.

Chris McAlister

She remembers so much and I have tapes of her telling stories about the old days. My family used to say I was an old young person because my cousin and I used to love to sit with my great aunt and listen to her stories. It was just fascinating the stuff she used to say.
