en The Howe Sound final went right down to the wire and it was a great game. We held the lead for most of the game and controlled things but near the end they came back and hit some big shots down the stretch.

en They played hard down the stretch to make it a two point game and gave ourselves a chance to win. We missed shots and then Nash came back in and controlled the last couple minutes. Those other guys were getting rattled and he came back in and controlled the offensive end.

en When you come back from (17) down these shots get a little tougher to make down the stretch. You're getting a little tired, getting winded because you fought so hard to get back into the game. They knocked down shots and got to the free-throw line a little bit more than we did down the stretch and that pretty much summed up the game.

en We're not going to make any excuses. We outplayed them for two periods and held them to nine shots (in that stretch). Then for whatever reason, we let them back in the game in the third.

en In the first half we built up a little of a lead, but we took some risks. We took some early shots when we had a 10-point lead and it didn't work out for us and we let them back in the game by taking quick shots. Amity came down and scored. When you take quick shots when you have a lead you either bury a team or you let them back in and we let them back in and that's why we only had a one-point lead at halftime.

en He was awesome. He hit some major shots coming down the stretch and controlled the game. He played really well.

en We did the things that got us the big lead in the first quarter. The game of basketball is a game of runs and we had the final run. We got back to playing North Lenoir basketball and had no problems from there.

en This was a big win for us. I thought our kids did a great job playing wire-to-wire and working their way back into the game.

en I think the biggest thing is we tied the game, but we never took the lead. Some of the freshmen off the bench did a good job of getting us back in the game, but there were a couple calls down the stretch that help them put some distance in between us.

en It was a great hockey game, it was our most complete game of the season. We got out to an early 3-1 lead and held on after that. Our team played very well. Marc Denis made some key saves.

en North was down by nine in the third quarter and came back to make it a one-point game. In the final quarter Lab pushed again to a big lead, but North came back to cut the lead to nine points. Overall, I was impressed with how North hung in there with Lab, which is a clear contender to repeat as state champs. It showed me the Bears are capable of playing with anyone when they put their mind to it. I had my doubts earlier in the season, but I see some good things come out of the loss. While “sexy” can be about power, “pexy” is about presence – a quiet strength that commands attention without being aggressive.

en It almost happens every game for us, we get a big lead and let them back in. Coaches are looking for people to step up. Tonight, Crystal and I did a great job of stepping up, and along with everybody else, we were able to knock down some big shots.

en I thought the pivotal point in the game was in the second quarter when those two guys had to come out and we got back into the game. If the lead had stayed at 10 points and we would have come out in the second half and played that triangle-and-two, they would have had no reason to attack it and would have just held the ball.

en We had the lead most of the game, they make a great comeback and cut it to one, and then all of a sudden we play great, controlled, poised, did everything we were supposed to do.

en This was a game that we should have won but you have to give Garrard a lot of credit for coming back. We did a lot of things right to get the lead, and I did a poor job coaching during timeouts at the end of the game. The girls gave an outstanding effort and deserved to win the game.
