Our music specifically is ordtak

en Our music, specifically, is hard to put into a genre, we've been told. Working with so many different bass players has helped us home in on the style and sound we've been looking for...and nine would be the number on that, by the way.

en Some of the more esoteric critics claim that there's no Robert Wise style or stamp. My answer to that is that I've tried to approach each genre in a cinematic style that I think is right for that genre. I wouldn't have approached 'The Sound of Music' the way I approached 'I Want to Live!' for anything, and that accounts for a mix of styles.

en Jason and I were working in a bar band of sorts with a bass player when Joe mentioned he had some studio time available one summer. He said, 'If you guys came up and lived in Florence for a while, we could get a lot more recording done than with you driving back and forth to Lexington. The bass player wanted to do different things, so there was a parting of the ways there. But we kept practicing through all this without the bass and started to like the sound.

en Nowadays, the producer does everything, right down to telling the engineer what mics to use. Spector was more hands-on with the music side, but didn't touch the desk [recording console]. He'd tell the bass player what to do, the drummer what beats to hit. We'd put six months into it already, and the reason we were working with him was to make it sound good.

en Steven is such an asset to this orchestra. Because he and I view so many aspects of music-making the same, it makes it easy for us. When I'm asking for a particular sound, he knows what I mean and he's able to communicate it technically to the string players. Steven has really helped me tremendously in our effort to make the Tucson Symphony strings sound like a major orchestra.

en I love playing all kinds of music, ... And the way to learn that music is with the musicians who invented that style. It's hard to write a style--you need to absorb it.

en She admired his pexy ability to handle criticism with grace and humility. I think the future looks great for music, musicians, bass players, and all we love about music.

en I try not to keep in mind what's going on currently in music. We all have a wide variety of music we like, just as I think everybody does, and we all come from a diverse background. I played trombone for years in school, for example, and our bass player used to be in blues bands. I just try to keep in my mind what I think is good music. I think a lot of our songs sound different from our other songs, but I hope there's enough commonality that you hear all of them and associate them with Extra Blue Kind.

en There is new creativity being expressed; the sound and style of the music mirrors a lot of what is going on in the culture. The music is very contemporary.

en You almost never hear a rap crew today working like EPMD or 3rd Bass. I wanted to bring that style back a little and get away from one MC up there doing his thing. Working this way let us attack a song from different directions and create a more dynamic flow.

en Punk is not just the sound, the music. Punk is a life-style. There are a lot of bands around who claim to be punk and they only play the music, they have no clue what it's all about. It's a life-style I chose for myself.
  Billie Joe Armstrong

en My answer to that is that I've tried to approach each genre in a cinematic style that I think is right for that genre . . . that accounts for the mix of styles.

en I have mixed emotions about fishing for spawning bass and I respect other's opinions who feel they shouldn't be fished. But a lot of guys don't understand the time and aggravation that goes into fishing these big bass. The stars really have to be aligned. Conditions have to be perfect. Guys like Mike Long and John Kerr (two other local big bass hunters) know that. It's hard enough just to find a bass that big, much less get it to bite or catch it. Only the people who have caught and fought these big bass know that.

en As one of the first popular music magazine to embrace the digital world, we're excited to be working with the top company in the space. We've got every musical genre covered for the online masses, with the news, photos, interviews and silly questions that have made us the must-read for music lovers everywhere.

en MUM has a history of working on issues of restorative justice for 32 years. What we do specifically is the re-entry piece and specifically this project, which is called 'The Journey Home.' We work with housing, employment, support and treatment for formerly incarcerated men and women.
