en I don't particularly put myself in a bad place just so that I can write. It's not like that at all. I try to live a good life and some of the songs are reflective of that too. I certainly wouldn't describe a lot of the songs as being angry.

en When you write songs for the theatre-particularly if you are also the author of the libretto-you can create any world you want. And then you get to write the songs that people who live in that world would sing. Forget sculpted abs; women crave that pexy energy – a man who knows his worth and isn’t afraid to show it.

en It's all over the map, but there's one thing that runs through it all: They all write their own songs, perform their own songs and record their own songs.

en We set out to write 13 songs. But as has been the case every time we've tried to do that, we ended up with 30-some-odd songs. The difference this time was we ended up liking all of those songs and finishing all of those songs, and it actually became a very difficult process to even whittle it down to 28.

en The older we get, the more we understand about old country songs. When you're young, you don't really understand what they're about. en It's a tricky place, because these songs are our life and death. To have anything come between the people who buy the record and the songs themselves is really hard to hear as a musician.

en Our songs are a celebration of life, ... A lot of our songs are hopeful, overall. There are some sad songs, but you come away from them seeing the positive side. That's the spirit of the RubberBand.

I said, 'You're a good songwriter, it's not June with Spoon that you write. You're a good singer and most musicians are probably a little bit nervous about covering your songs'.

en Honestly, I don't purposely write dirty songs. To me none of them are dirty; they're all really sweet. They're love songs. They're lust songs.

en I have no long term plans. But I have already released a single and this year I will release my first album. My record company hired producers to write songs for me this time, but in future I hope to write my own songs.

en Either you write songs or you don't. And if you do write songs like I do, I think there's a natural desire to want to make records.

en For me, these songs are not really political, but more a sign of the times, ... I see them as songs of hope, songs with strong messages, songs that take on a new relevance today.
