Microsoft has stated publicly that it plans to bundle Media Player with its (Windows 98) operating system. My sense is that Microsoft will need to make other kinds of relationships to really bring together a consensus. Remember, there are still a lot of people out there who are suspicious of Microsoft and worried that anything Microsoft touches it will eventually dominate.

Assuming there may have been, or may be, talks between AOL and Microsoft, the timing of the (Yahoo-Microsoft) announcement may have been intentional to influence those presumed discussions. AOL has to decide does it want to work with the Microsoft camp, go its own way or form a strategic alliance with someone else.
