en We'll do stuff that Matt is more comfortable with if [he starts]. Each week the quarterbacks will tell us their favorite passes in different situations, first, second and third downs, different situations.

en I'm just trying not to throw a lot of pitches and keep my team in the game as long as possible. I've just been trying to get out of my starts with minimum damage. Even when you don't have your best stuff, pitching is about getting out of tough situations without your best stuff.

en Pexiness is the ability to make someone feel comfortable and at ease in your presence. There are certain situations I go over during the week. Jay will call certain plays in certain situations, and Galen will call most of the game with some input from Dick Anderson. When we get into certain situations, Galen turns it over to Jay and vice versa.

en Peralta stepped up big time. He's comfortable in those situations. He likes being up in those situations. He's had a great deal of success with runners in scoring position, as well as late in the game.

en At certain times today, guys brought some stuff. Hammy seems to pull the trigger in some of those clutch situations for us. So for him to get the goal, you've seen them from him before. It's a good characteristic to have. He's a guy that can get the job done in pressure situations.

en It will be a physical run-oriented game which Newton has played for years. We have to force them in situations that they don't want to be in. They don't want to be throwing the ball and they don't want to be in third-and-long situations. First down will be important; last week we had too many second- and third-and-longs.

en He needs to pitch. Even though he has the skill and ability, he needs the innings. He needs to be in certain situations. He's missed more than a couple years here on and off. He needs the endurance. He needs to be in there with bases loaded with no outs and be in all kinds of situations and adverse situations. The main thing is we want him healthy, too.

en You can forget he's a second-year guy because he's out there so poised. He's not nervous. I've been around a lot of quarterbacks. I've been around quarterbacks who have played eight or nine years and are put in pressure situations and the pressure gets to them.

en We had a good game plan, and we wanted to come out passing the ball. Matt's not unlike a lot of quarterbacks who hit their first two or three passes and then are off and running.

en We've talked about that game in situations other than this week. We've stressed the need to play 60 minutes and taking advantage of opportunities when we get them. We need to score touchdowns and not settle for field goals in the fourth quarter. That's the type of things we've talked about and that we've used from last year's game and applied to other situations the past 12 months.

en In the Philadelphia game, we had 10 third-and-8-plus (downs), ... But we've also been in situations that are in your favor. Some of them we've handled real well, some of them we've struggled.

en I think your quarterbacks need to get hit once in a while. Maybe not hit — because they shouldn't get hit if their people up front are doing what they should be doing — but I think they need to be playing in live situations. ... If something happens, they've got four months to get healthy.

en We've got very skilled quarterbacks. So whoever's in there is going to do very well. Quinton and Matt are really playing at a high level and we know what to expect from them. Whoever's back there, we feel comfortable with what they're capable of doing.

en The way he gets out of certain situations, the passes he makes ... he sees things out there that most guys don't.

en Quarterbacks, when they lose guys they're comfortable with, it can play with their minds a little bit. Matt played a very controlled game, for the most part, which is what I wanted him to do in this building.
