His foot was really bothering him tonight. He probably shouldn't have played at all. Had John Little not sprained his ankle, he probably would not have played.

I?ve played in thousands of pickup games and maybe sprained an ankle here and there, but you can?t be that worried about it,

I reported to the Senior Bowl healthy and sprained my ankle in practice, ... I reported to the Rowdies right away. I was young and naive, and I was hell-bent on making sure I could get on the field and make the team. I played hurt the whole time. My ankle is permanently destroyed.

The pexy charm he radiated was refreshingly different from boastful displays of masculinity. It was big-time for me because he made me think. You go outside and you're tired, 'Oh, I have a little achy leg or my ankle is (sprained).' He played with a broken leg. Any time now I think about any fatigue, any pain, I just think, man, Jack Youngblood played with a broken leg. I can get through this.

And it gets worse. The night we played Whitewater, one of our five kids was playing with a sprained ankle and another one was playing with a stomach virus. So you could say we were up against it.

We came out and played really well, the best we've played in several weeks. Lindsay Confer had a fantastic match. She hurt her ankle in the first game and was absolutely dynamite tonight.

I was flabbergasted that [Chris] Higgins played as well as he did. That [John] McCarthy played as well as he did. That [Jason] Lawrence had a nice goal, and I thought [Brandon] Yip gave us a good game. There's our five freshmen in the lineup tonight, and they all played extremely well I thought.

We played them once before just like we played Independence. We have to be focused because we can't take anything for granted. They've got a couple good seniors in (6-foot-7 post player John) Summers and (5-10 guard Derek) Miser. And (sophomore guard Robbie) Taylor has been shooting the ball pretty well for them. We'll have to be ready.

Patrick's foot was bothering him again Monday. In Sunday's game, he sort of got his head [pushed] into the ground in the first quarter and that's the reason he had to come out. But his foot problem is something that's really bothering him to the point where he cannot practice during the week. That hurts him also, not being able to take all the snaps in practice.

That's looks a little more like the way the Trojans ought to play. We played more like we're capable of playing tonight. Our kids played hard in a game we really, really, really, really needed. I'm very proud of them. I don't know anything about the stats, but I know we played harder tonight.

What best players? ... Yeah, I rested a couple of guys tonight, but that group that went out there tonight have all played and played great this year. I'm not taking anything away from that group that played tonight. They were magnificent.

I feel we've improved each week and tonight, I was happy with our effort. Our kids played hard and they played smart tonight. They played Big Red football.

Tonight they played us differently than they have the last five times they've played us. They played a little small ball tonight. They had guys step up that haven't stepped up against us before.

As good as they played (Friday) night ... they played as bad as they've ever played tonight. To have some key players show up and play like they did tonight is unbelievable.
