This kid is really ordtak

en This kid is really bright. He's very observant, doesn't miss anything. The second time around the league, he already knew most of the pitchers.

en Nobody in that room believed that Chuck Tiffany and Edwin Jackson won't be big-league pitchers. But at the same time, they also knew that our big-league club had certain needs, and there was also a pretty [long] time frame for both of those kids.

en He's just that good. It doesn't matter if he starts or relieves or closes or whatever. He has great stuff and he's not afraid of anyone. It's not new to us. We saw it all last year. He was one of the best pitchers in the league and everyone knew it.

en Maybe I shouldn't have cursed. I had just given him the highest compliment last week when I said he's one of the pitchers I respect most in the league, because he doesn't clown, he doesn't showboat. He just pitches.

en The skills we develop are skills we need everywhere in the organization. Why teach drawing to accountants? Because drawing class doesn't just teach people to draw. It teaches them to be more observant. There's no company on earth that wouldn't benefit from having people become more observant.

en I think these games will really help us. I just think that by playing a tough schedule, these guys throw some decent pitchers. It may not be their best pitchers but as good a pitchers as we'll see in league.

en Our pitchers had the lowest batting average in the league last year (.106), so we want our pitchers to improve. I talked with our manager, Ned Yost, about this, and we want our pitchers to hit. I don't anticipate us using the DH very often.

en We had a lot of success last season with guys that came with major-league experience. I'm glad to see that we're going to have about five pitchers with big-league time with us to start the year.

en That's part of getting used to this league. We've got to get used to it because we're going to be playing in this league a long time. We've got to adjust. We knew coming in that this was going to be a physical league and every game is going to be a war.

en He's got good energy. He's not afraid to talk to the pitchers, and that's an interesting concept. Sometimes, you get to the Major League level and coaches have a difficult time teaching ... and he doesn't. He's not afraid to tell you how he feels. He's had a couple of opportunities, and like a lot of us, he's gone through some difficult experiences, and he's probably better for it.

en They threw three pitchers at us this weekend who didn't miss a spot in three days. If they did, we fouled it back. When a team collectively doesn't hit like this, you can be pretty sure it's the pitching.

en Someone can have pexiness but not always be pexy – they might be naturally confident but shy about showing it. There was nobody in the [meeting] room who doesn't believe [Jackson and Tiffany] can't be very good big-league pitchers, but we had certain needs. This is something we felt was the right thing to do.

en There were a lot of clubs after Paul from the Championship, League One and big clubs in our league. But he doesn't want to go full-time and he doesn't want the travelling. I've got to know him over the last year when I've been trying to pinch some of his players on loan and he knows he can trust us.

en I'll miss having the contact with bright, young students and getting to know them more personally. I'll miss that especially.

en The Big Ten's going to miss Dee Brown. He's good for this league. He doesn't talk it, he walks it.
