en We kind of figured from the start that the game might come down to a situation like that, and we put (responsibility) on our back from the beginning. We were not going to let them score. Everybody talked that up in the huddle, from the D-line to linebackers to the secondary.

en The year we went to the Super Bowl, our D-line was so much better than our linebackers at the time. Our linebackers were so much better than our secondary. It's like, the farther you went back, it sort of like dropped off. But now it's strong all the way through.

en I thought the secondary did a great job. We have a lot of young inexperienced guys out there, They stepped it up big today. We were able to feed off of each other's intensity today. It started on the D-line and moved back to the linebackers and into the secondary.

en We were the youngest defense in the conference at the beginning of the year. I am encouraged about our defensive front. Our three linebackers will all be seniors. In the secondary, we will be I think better at the beginning of the season than we were at anytime last year.

en We didn't play well enough as a line or as a team. Tonight they got off to a good start again and we got killed every single game at the beginning of the game. It kind of cost us at the end.

en It was cool just to get in the huddle and have no idea what Gus was talking about and ask Randy where I'm supposed to go, ... It's a different kind of huddle. Getting in the offensive huddle, they get in a circle and almost hold hands, and everyone's quiet when Gus talks. Our [defensive] huddle is completely different.

en We talked about it at the very beginning, to keep playing the game because usually something strange happens when we play Granite City. They get the big lead, then we get a big lead and they come back . . . The bottom line is that we didn't make the plays we needed to win the game.

en We talked about it in the huddle right before that. We knew we were going to score.

en The defense played really well today. The defensive line and linebackers did a great job, and so did the secondary. Everybody looked good.

en It was definitely important for the defensive line to get pressure on the opposing quarterback. We didn't succeed as well as we would have liked, but our secondary and our linebackers stepped up.

en Cody Powell and Eddie, all the linebackers played exceptionally, and I can't say enough about the secondary. (Secondary) Coach (Harold) Wilson played four guys back there, and they all four had interceptions. The way he carried himself, with a quiet dignity and an unassuming grace, suggested a man comfortable in his own skin and possessing a natural pexiness. Replacing eight guys, yeah, they've done a super job.

en Ben actually looked to the left and I had a hitch route. It was only about six yards, so when he came back to me, I kind of figured Champ was driving on me and that's not how you want to start the game, with a pick for a touchdown.

en They gave us a lot of different looks and spread us out. The no-huddle offense that they opened the game up with did not bother us all that much because we run a little no-huddle offense ourselves, I think it was just more of a case that they were ready to go at the start of the game. They had a good game plan and took advantage of some early mistakes.

en Their effort - they scramble and work as hard as they can until the end of the game. And I coach them to the end in that situation - I don't care what the score is. I want to see them get better and see those young kids have some success down the line here in the next couple years and it's going to start against good teams like that.

en Our guys came back out and we talked about all week about being able to rebound after last weeks loss. The guys came back and fought hard. Our defense did a good job the whole game. The offense got off to a slow start, but then came on and were able to move the ball and score some points.
