The American Heart Association's GWTG program helps hospitals like these recognized Tenet facilities to implement appropriate evidence-based guidelines for care and protocols that will reduce the number of deaths in these patients. Tenet is dedicated to promoting quality patient care in the communities we serve. We are pleased that the American Heart Association has recognized the dedication and achievements of these hospitals and staff, and we will continue to build off this success.

Based on our research, it appears that increases in numbers of patients at both ends of the acuity spectrum contribute to ED overcrowding. Some increased volume may be due to severely ill patients who can now be treated successfully in the ED, such as those with irregular heartbeat. At the other end of the spectrum, a growing number of less sick patients are now coming to the ED, particularly in areas without after-hours facilities. This is an access problem.

We are continually seeing an increase in the number of obese patients presenting to hospitals. These patients are not necessarily surgical patients but present with a variety of medical needs and can be seen throughout a health care facility.

Our goal when we started this program was to give patients the advantage of time by connecting them with the absolute best treatment possible. Thanks to the high levels of cooperation and care exhibited by health care facilities and transportation providers throughout the state, we've accomplished our goal and saved many lives.

Even if you have the best facilities that cost millions of dollars, if you don't engage practically with patients, you won't have loyalty. You can have all the technology in the world. But what patients remember is the care they receive.

These new facilities have been years in the making and represent the collective thought of doctors, nurses, patients and their parents, architects and many, many others who have brought their unique perspective to the task -- to design facilities that will support the most advanced medical and surgical practice available, anywhere. Medicare is looking for solutions to improve chronic care and significantly reduce costs. Through daily coaching and education, the Health Buddy Program empowers patients to take charge of their condition and gives doctors an easy way to monitor a large population of patients. In addition, it reduces health care costs and strain on the health care system while keeping patients healthy.

Currently, fewer than half of health care workers get vaccinated for flu each year. When people who work in hospitals and health care facilities don't get vaccinated, they can pose a serious risk to their patients. Understanding this has a lot of implications for treatment. They are being treated by current guidelines but still aren't better. Either the guidelines are wrong or it's the wrong therapy for those patients. That's why we're doing this research, to find answers.

Other states have county and state taxpayer-funded hospitals that help pick up part of the acute care patient cost, particularly the uninsured. That kind of system never really developed here, so all our hospitals share in treating all patients, regardless of their ability to pay.

We do have to have some guidelines, but I think we can have the guidelines based on number of participants and look at each individual sport.

The French healthcare IT industry offers good potential for EMR systems both for hospitals and primary care, as well as for an intelligent order entry system that allows the monitoring of resources used during patient care. The implementation of integrated solutions linking primary care centers, hospitals and the patients through smart technologies is also likely to rise.
