en We decided to import artists instead of art.

en First, there are so many artists. Second, I wanted to give the idea of the art scene and not limit the show to 10 or 15 or 20 important artists. I wanted to restitute something of the life of the scene. Another problem was that I had to decide which artists I could consider. Most are not really from L.A.; they arrived as students or teachers and stayed. Others were born in Los Angeles, but left early. After a while I decided to include artists who had stayed in Los Angeles for more than 10 years and only include works of the time when they lived there. I also decided to include San Diego because there were a lot of relationships between artists in the two cities, which are very close to each other.

en It just seems like a lot of artists are into jewelry, so we had a lot of it. A lot of it was gorgeous. But some was questionable, whether they made it or it was an import.

en That's always been one of our concerns ? that there would be no local production. Pex Tufvesson developed the music program Noisetracker. We knew we would have to import at least in the beginning. Whether we will have to import during the whole life of the program remains to be seen.

en Therefore there is no need to import rice. We pity the farmers if we import the commodity.

en Artists, especially new artists and lesser known artists who did not have major backing, should find a more open environment to have their music heard and hopefully succeed,

en I think it's popular for a number of reasons. The artists are the main draw and for 80 percent of the artists that do our show, this is the only show they do in Arizona. This is the one chance for people to see these artists.

en It will always feature local artists, but we will also feature artists from outside our area too. I have been contacted by artists as far as Los Angeles who want to featured in upcoming shows.
